Gustavo was a great guide. He was knowledgeable and supportive, always checking that we were OK and his passion for his job and country were very clear. A great photographer too and it was great when he shared his bird photos. The tour really showed off the colour and vibrancy of the country.
Colombia will be one of the biggest surprises in all your travels. Amazing cities, modern and colorful with local ‘art graffiti’ murals showcasing the history and pride of the Colombian people. Stroll through 15th century streets, walk on the Camino Real, and hike up a staircase along a rock face, all the while enjoying the lush garden-like landscapes in this tropical paradise. You will be astonished at the diversity and beauty of the flora, fauna, culture and most all, the welcoming smiles through the country.
The tour leader, Andrés, really made this trip to a Good experience. The itenerary includes more or less all relevant cities/sights in Colombia, and we have received a Good introduction to the general life in Colombia. Some of the travel days were a bit long. All in all a Good experience and travel.
It would be good to spend less time driving but I can’t see a way around it.More time in Medellín would be nice. The hotel there was lovely but very out of the way.We arrived by 3 but did nothing that afternoon which was partly our fault. My preference if staying in that hotel would be for the guide to take us to the nearby subway station and suggest an interesting close neighborhood to go to for us to walk around and eat dinner. He did point out the station from the bus but in that concrete jungle all we were able to find was an uninteresting mall.We did a lot of interesting experiences but I would recommend that the botanical garden be included and skip the cooking class and shorten the coffee experience in the coffee region.
Really enjoyed this holiday. Lots of variety. Organisation went very well. Tour leader Andres was excellent. Only issue was an incorrect itinerary - which states a visit to Pablo Escobar's house in Medellin, which never happened and local tour guide said was a joke. Explore leader said it couldn't be done. So I'm raising a complaint about this as it's clearly a real draw for Medellin
John was a super guide who was desperate to show us all that Colombia is a jewel in the crown of South America As always, I was expecting the trip to be excellent, but I was also expecting that air of 'testiness' that comes with travelling in South America but it just wasn't there. The trip was well thought out and showed Colombia off to be welcoming and full of fun. Add to that a fantastic contrast from the cities to the mountains to the coffee plantations to the beaches...I look back and think how did we squeeze all that in?? Would I recommend this trip - 100% Would I like to visit Colombia again - 100%, what's the chance of a wildlife based tour coming anytime soon???
