Itinerary
Ever wondered what it’s like to live among the Maasai? The Maasai Cultural Tours invite you into the vibrant world of one of Africa’s most iconic tribes. Enjoy traditional tea brewed over a wood fire, savor local dishes, and join Maasai warriors as they share their knowledge of medicinal plants and bushcraft.
Your bush excursion includes lessons in tool usage, hunting techniques, and fire making. As the sun sets, gather around the campfire for lively singing and dancing, capped off with a delicious BBQ-buffet under the stars.
For travelers seeking authentic cultural immersion, this trip’s USP is its hands-on engagement with Maasai traditions and warm hospitality, creating an evening of unforgettable memories and newfound friendships.
day 1 - Moshi to Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village
In the morning we drive to Olpopongi in the West Kilimanjaro region, 74 kilometres from
Moshi. Our two hours drive will take us through the beautiful outback of West Kilimanjaro.
Depending on the season you can see game like zebras and elephants. On clear days you
will have amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. We reach Olpopongi before
lunch time, where we will be welcomed by the local Maasai with a traditional welcome song
and dance. From there we take a walk around the village and you will check-in your hut for
the night. The guides will then take you to the precious little museum, where you will learn
about the history, social organisation and tools of Maasai people. In-between this lecture a
traditional Tanzanian lunch will be served to give you enough energy for an exciting afternoon.
After lunch we visit the midwife and herbalist for a traditional tea in one of the huts.
You will learn about the every day life in a Maasai village. After this very spiritual meeting, we
have a short break, which you can use for some traditional jewellery shopping or coffee and
tea. After tea we embark on a bush walk to learn about the endemic plants and their usage
for the Maasai. Our day will be rounded up with a fire making session, bbq and bonfire before
you dream away in your 100 % authentic Maasai hut.
day 2 - Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village to Moshi
Breakfast will be set for us outside in the morning. After breakfast take some final photographs
of this unique village and the people you met during our trip. We then greet our
farewells and drive back to Moshi. We will reach Moshi around lunch time.
