Ready for a true mountaineering adventure? The Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route trek is a favorite among experienced travelers seeking both beauty and challenge. This 8-day guided trip takes you up Africa’s highest peak along the less-traveled, scenic Lemosho trail—famed for its pristine wildlife, panoramic vistas, and excellent acclimatization. With smaller trekking groups and a high summit success rate, this route offers a more peaceful, rewarding experience. Participants need to be in good shape, as you’ll ascend to Uhuru Peak and descend in just six days. The unique selling point: low-traffic trails and breathtaking scenery, making it the top choice for trekkers determined to conquer Kilimanjaro.
On arrival at the international airport in Kilimanjaro, you will be met by a Himalayan Glacier representative who will escort you to your designated hotel in Moshi. Later, in the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion with our manager. You may ask as many questions to your trip guide and get a clear vision about your upcoming trip.
In the morning, your guide will arrive at the hotel along with a support crew who will meet you and have another short briefing. After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive off to Londorossi Gate (2200m), the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park. After acquiring climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, you will continue towards the drop-off points by off-road vehicles. The drop-off point (Lemosho Glades) at an altitude of 3500 meters is the point where you will be able to see the magnificent views of the Shira Plateau for the first time. From the drop-off point, you will begin trekking with a moderate gain in altitude towards the high-altitude camp Shira 2. The walk is not too physically challenging but you will be able to begin getting acclimatized. By the time you reach the camp, your crew will already have the tents set up and they will cook dinner for you.
You will start trekking from Shira 2 Camp after breakfast and head towards the key point of the route, the Lava Tower (4630m). Since this section of the trail comprises lots of ups and downs, it might not be easy and you may feel some discomfort. In order to get acclimatized to the altitude, it is necessary to spend a couple of hours here, so we will stop here for lunch. After lunch, it is time for descending down to Barranco Camp (3960m). At the camp, you will see the famous Barranco Wall which is notable for its colossal size and steep gradient.
Today, you will climb the Barranco Wall. Hiking up the wall is not so hard and takes around one hour to the summit. In order to avoid crowds of other groups, it is advised to make an early start from the camp after breakfast. On reaching the top of the wall, you will rest for a while and take photographs in front of the Kibo volcano. It is then time to take up a more difficult hike towards the Karanga Camp. After walking at an optimal pace on the frequent ascents and descents on the route, you will reach the camp and have your lunch. A couple of hours after lunch, you will hike further higher to get acclimatized and then walk back down to the camp.
Today, you will begin towards the Barafu Summit Camp (4640m) after breakfast. The camp is the starting point for summiting the Uhuru Peak (5895m). On reaching the camp, you will have your lunch and rest for a few hours. Then you will head out for another acclimatization hike towards the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4800m). Coming back to the camp, you will eat your dinner and spend the remaining of your time resting and sleeping. You will begin summiting at night time.
You will wake up just before midnight. After having some tea and biscuits, you will begin the climb to the top of Uhuru Peak. Relatively, it is an easy climb with only the high altitude as a challenging factor. Your trekking guide will monitor your physical and mental conditions throughout the entire journey. In about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m) located on the crater rim, and make a brief stop with magnificent sunrise views. From this point onwards, you may encounter snow all the way in the 1-hour ascent to the last point of the climb – Uhuru Peak, the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After spending some time drinking tea and taking photographs on the summit, you may descend to the nearest glacier if you wish. Then you will return back to Barafu Camp which will take around 3 hours. Here at the camp, you will rest and enjoy your hot lunch in the sun and after resting for a while, you will descend further to the Millennium Camp (3820m) to spend the night.
Waking up in the morning in the camp situated in a tropical forest, you will be relieved with the normal elevation and the satisfaction of making it to the top. Following a well-deserved breakfast, you will have a big celebration with your staff; present your tips to the guides and other crew members. Then you will descend down for three hours and head towards the Park’s exit Mweka Gate (1640m). Hikers will be congratulated and given a chance to share their opinions on the climb in the guestbook. In the end, you will be presented with commemorative certificates in our office and transferred back to your hotel room.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your international departure back home. The hotel check-out time is 11.00 am but if you have an evening flight and wish to check out from the hotel at a later time, there is an option to extend your hotel stay for an extra charge. If you wish to extend your stay in Tanzania for a few more days, then you have the option to go on a Tanzania safari or relax on the beaches of Zanzibar.

Climbing the Kilimanjaro was my first addition to my bucket list, and I finally ticked it off. The journey to its top and back was extraordinary. That feeling of accomplishment is something I will forever cherish. Himalayan Glacier team did a great job in coordinating the trip perfectly.
Our Kilimanjaro climb went just as planned. Our well-experienced knew guides knew how to deal with any hurdles along the way. The equipment they provided was also of high quality. Overall, the trip was perfect.
Absolutely wonderful experience climbing Kilimanjaro. From pre-tour planning at home to be picked up and dropped off at the airport and everything in between was well managed. Our guide made us feel as if we were his family and took good care of us. Even the meals prepared during the climb were delicious. We are glad that he led us to Kili and back. Great job, HG and the entire team.
Yet again HGT has exceeded expectations! They are everything you want in a travel company - skilled guides/porters, friendly staff, reasonable pricing, and excellent communication/planning. Tony worked directly with me to ensure the trip would meet/exceed all my expectations. Fredy and Paul, our Tanzanianguides, were knowledgeable, skilled, friendly and went out of there way to make sure our experience was perfect. Again, we are amazed by the strength and endurance of our incredible porters, who make it possible for 2 people to successfully summit Kili. Afterwards, Frank and Fredy catered to our every need on our 3 day safari.Everything was perfect!
We recently utilized Himalayan Glacier Trekking for a Mt. Kilimanjaro hike and summit. There were 9 in our party - a mix of men, women, young and "not so young". We hiked the Lemosho route, an 8-day hike. The experience was amazing. Our guide Paul, and his assistant guides Fredy, Paul, Orio and the others were all great! They were very attentive to our needs, engaging, friendly, spoke great English, and were always there to help or assist us in any way.Our meals were very good, and consisted of eggs, sausage, oatmeal, and toast for breakfast, various sandwiches, soups, and fruits for lunch, and chicken, pastas and vegetables for dinner. The staff did a great job of preparing and serving each meal - we did not go hungry! The overall hike and trip was amazing. The guides were especially helpful on the summit day, when several of our party needed to shed our backpacks to continue climbing. The guys were right there to grab the packs and keep helping us up. They, and we, were successful, with all of our party reaching the summit. This is the second trip i have taken with HGT, having also used them for an Everest Base Camp hike a couple of years ago. i highly recommend this very professional and friendly, customer-centric outfitter for your hiking trip to Kilimanjaro (or the Himalayas). You will not be disappointed with them!
