Itinerary

Bhutan is a unique country nestled between the Himalayas. With pristine landscape and unspoiled culture, a journey across the Himalayan kingdom is a truly remarkable experience.

Bhutan has been successful in preserving its deeply rooted Buddhist traditions while slowly embracing modernity. The kingdom is also exemplary in its environmental protection with swaths of the country’s pristine forest preserved as national parks and reserves.

On this guided tour, arrive in Paro, a picturesque valley dotted with farmhouses and crossed by the turquoise colored Pachu River. Then drive to Thimphu, the capital city, to explore the city’s numerous cultural landmarks. Head to Punakha where you will hike through villages and visit farmhouses.

End the trip with a vigorous hike to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery and a nice traditional hot stone bath in a farmhouse afterwards. A fantastic conclusion to your stay in Bhutan.

day 1 - Arrive in Paro; drive to Thimphu

The flight to Paro crosses the Himalayan Mountains, affording spectacular views of the awesome peaks, including the sacred Jumolhari and Jichu Drake peaks in Bhutan. On arrival, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel.

If time permits, visit Rinpung Dzong meaning “fortress of the heap of jewels". It has a long and fascinating history. Along the wooden galleries lining the courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong are fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore. You will walk downhill until crossing the traditional wooden bridge. Your vehicle will be waiting here to take you to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

The road to the capital leads through the Paro Valley to the chuzom (confluence) of Paro and Thimphu rivers. You might see farmers sit by the side of the road selling vegetables, apples and dried cheese. A short way beyond, on the left is the Tachogang Lhakhang built in 15th century by Thangthong Gyelpo, a trader who first introduced Iron Bridges in Bhutan.

Check into your hotel on arrival. Later in the evening, you can stroll through Thimphu city and absorb the lifestyle of the people. Overnight in Thimphu.

day 2 - Sightseeing in Thimphu

After breakfast, visit the King's Memorial Chorten, the School of Arts and Crafts, Folk Heritage Museum and the giant Buddha Statue at Kuenselphodrang overlooking Thimphu valley.

In the afternoon, visit the popular Weekend Market where you can see a variety of local foodstuff, including baskets upon baskets of fiery chilies, fresh cheese and fruits. In addition, many stalls contain Bhutanese handicrafts and household items. This is perhaps a good opportunity for photography and to mingle with local farmers.

In the evening, you can visit handicraft stores for souvenir shopping. Overnight in Thimphu.
