An extra acclimatization day

Summit via the dramatic Barafu Route and reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise

Itinerary

Tackle Mount Kilimanjaro via the iconic Machame Route on this well-paced 7-day climb designed to boost acclimatization and summit success. Approaching from the south-west, the trail winds through lush rainforest and open moorland before linking up with the Shira Plateau and traversing beneath Kibo’s dramatic southern icefields. As altitude increases, crowds thin out and the mountain reveals its raw, untamed character.

Clear days reward you with sweeping views of Mount Meru floating above the clouds—an image that tends to stick for life. The final push follows the Barafu Route, a demanding yet spectacular ascent that leads you to Uhuru Peak just as dawn breaks over Africa. With an extra day built in, this itinerary strikes the sweet spot between challenge and comfort, giving you time to acclimatise properly while soaking up Kilimanjaro’s ever-changing scenery.

day 1Moshi – Kilimanajaro Gate – Machame camp

Enjoy a morning pickup from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha and drive to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, passing through the Machame village on the mountain’s lower slopes. Upon arrival at the gate, the trek begins through dense rainforest, following a winding ridge trail rich in birdlife and towering trees. The path can be muddy and slippery in places, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. After a steady climb, you’ll reach Machame Camp, tucked into the forest and marking your first night on the mountain.
