Itinerary

Embark on a 6-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb via the Rongai Route, approaching the mountain from the north near the Kenya–Tanzania border. This lesser-used route remained largely untouched for many years due to its sensitive location, making it one of the quietest approaches to the summit.

Now fully open for trekking, the Rongai Route is considered by experienced guides to be easier than the popular Marangu Trail, with a high summit success rate and scenic, gradual ascent. The trek begins through cultivated farmland and forest, offering occasional wildlife sightings, before continuing through multiple climate zones on the way to Africa’s highest peak.

day 1Moshi to Kilimanjaro Gate – Rongai Simba camp

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the Rongai Route gate at Kilimanjaro National Park. After completing park formalities, the trek begins with a gentle ascent through pine forest and open woodland. The trail is gradual and easy, making for a relaxed introduction to the climb.
Your first night is spent at First Cave (Simba) Camp, located at around 2,600 meters above sea level. The campsite has a toilet and simple seating, but no huts. Water is available a short distance down the trail.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Distance: approx. 8 km
