Join us for a half day tour of the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea. Itinerary: Main Subway Station → Imjingak Park → The Bridge of Freedom → The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel → DMZ Theater & Exhibition Hall → Dora Observatory → Pass by the Unification Village → Drop off at Gongdeok or City Hall (13:30PM) The DMZ The armistice that put a halt to the Korean War (1950-1953) divided the Korean Peninsula into South and North Korea. The two sides are separated by the Korean Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, running along the 38th parallel north. The DMZ is also a unique natural ecosystem, one that is globally acknowledged for its ecological value. Imjingak This park was built to console the refugees who left North Korea during the Korean War. At the park are the following attractions; Mangbaedan, an altar set up for refugees to bow in the direction of their ancestral graveyards; Freedom bridge, which was built to free 12,773 prisoners in 1953; Unification pond, which is in the shape of the Korean Peninsula; and the Peace bell. The 3rd Tunnel The third tunnel was discovered in October 1978, and is evidently designed for an invasion of the south. Dora Observatory The Unification Observatory is located on Odu mountain, in an area of superb scenic beauty with Han river and Imjin river. It was opened on September 8, 1992.

Start your tour with a visit to Jogyesa Buddhist Temple, the center of Zen Buddhism in Korea, famous for being located in the city. The first things you will notice at the temple are the lovely trees. These locust trees and baeksong trees in front of the Daeungjeon, the main temple building, are about 500 years old. The tour also visits Gyeongbok Palace, built in 1395, which is arguably the most beautiful and the grandest of all the five palaces. Every day, visitors to Gyeongbok palace can watch a re-enactment of the changing of the royal guards' ceremony, which takes place at the Gwanghwamun and Heungnyemun plazas. The royal guards of the Joseon Dynasty (1392~1910) were in charge of protecting the gates of the capital city and the royal palace. The newly opened Cheongwadae Sarangchae, which opened to the public on January 5th, 2010, is a history center that gives visitors a chance to follow in the footsteps of presidents of Korea and gain insight into the history of Seoul. It encompasses the past, present and even the future of Seoul as well as the entire nation We'll also visit Insa-dong, the most reliable place to purchase antiques in Seoul. Here you may browse antique shops, art galleries and second-hand bookstores. Next up on our Seoul City tour is another traditional market, but this one is entirely different from Insadong. Gwangjang Market comprises around 5,000 vendors and is one of the oldest and largest in Seoul. It was also the first permanent market in Korea. What better way to end our Seoul City Tour than a ride up to Seoul Tower on the iconic Namsan Cable Car. This well-known Korean landmark offers captivating views of Namsan Mountain and downtown Seoul as you ascend the 605-metre-long cable to the top. I really liked this trip, though I wish we stayed in Busan for at least another night. Both the Contiki and Korean guides were great, there were a few add-ons in each city to choose from and I definitely feel like I learned more about Korea than if I'd gone to the country without doing a Contiki tour. Nice hotels and breakfasts, wonderful tour guides We really liked seeing the Monkey Park. The only thing we didnt like very much was that our tour group members and guides were changed every couple of days, other than that we were satisfied with the trip.
