My name is Beattie, I'm 21, an Australian studying in the US and I just completed a 10 day trek to Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri. I could not stress more how much I enjoyed this trek and how you will definitely not regret a single thing when you book to trek in the everest region! I usually do not write reviews but this trip was so breathtaking that I just had to champion my guide, Dhana, and the agency he works for.
Firstly, I originally booked with a friend. However, she bailed a month from my departure date. I was originally hesitant to go alone but this should definitely not deter you from trekking in the area if this is a fear of yours. Trekking alone has its own spiritual power you cannot get when you trek in a big group. You can walk at your own pace and take breaks whenever you want! Also, you meet so so many amazing people while travelling solo so you're never really alone.
Secondly, my guide DHANA was the most amazing companion to have during the trip. He went above and beyond to make my hike enjoyable and smooth. He was such a sweet man who was great company. His English is close to impeccable and is a great card player! He beat me several times at a card game I taught him on the trek. Moreover, he is very flexible and can adjust your trip to your needs. He genuinely cares about you and wants you to have the best trip possible.
Thirdly, this local tour company based in Kathmandu is great. Chhatra, who I originally emailed after booking, met me when I first arrived in Kathmandu and was very warm and welcoming. He is clearly very experienced at what he does and understands the whole system very well - he will be truthful with you and is someone whose word you can trust. Moreover, this company provided me with numerous benefits I had no idea I was actually going to receive. Every night, my oxygen level and heart rate was checked, I received fruit after every dinner and got a free hat and cap upon arriving in Kathmandu. Definitely an awesome trustworthy company to book with.
Finally, the trek itself was amazing and a trip I'll never forget. I trekked in mid December which actually was such a perfect time. The trails weren't too crowded but still enough people were trekking in order to make friends. The lake was frozen over which was still as stunning as ever regardless. Summiting Gokyo Ri was by far my favorite part of the trip. We trekked it around 2:30pm and arrived at the summit just before sunset which was absolutely incredible. My phone died at the summit because it was so cold but luckily I had a film camera (I would highly recommend bringing a film camera or even a disposable as the cold can kill batteries pretty fast - portable charger is another great idea). In terms of altitude sickness, I was very lucky to not feel the altitude too much. Diamox can be taken if needed but I think if you're young and fit the chances are you don't need to take it.
Some final trips would be: bring chapstick, bring a portable charger, bring a film camera, pack lightly and bring proper hiking socks. Be prepared for potential delays going to and from Lukla as well.
I could not recommend this operator more. I would highly suggest requesting Dhana as your guide as he is not only very knowledgeable about hiking in the Himalayas but is also such a great human as well! I will definitely be back to Nepal.

I did the Mera Peak trekking over 15 days, organized by local tour specialists. Mr. Krishna Subedi (Kris) is the manager of the organization. He is a very good co-ordinator, puts you immediately on whatsapp when you arrive, and keeps following up your trekking and summit experience. When there were small problems, he immediately took action and contacted the right people. My guide Mr. Neyma Sherpa was also very helpfull and an excellent guide.
The trek itself was very enjoyable. The Tea houses were very good and they were very flexible when i prefered another teahouse than the one they already booked.
A few extra things to keep in mind:
- The month May used to be the best month for Mera Peak but we had a lot of rain... May-be April or October is becoming better now...
- Listen to your guide at all times and don't go up to fast. The trekking is also about acclimatizing. Sometimes you need that extra day at 4000m...
- Take a portable solar panel with you and a power bank. (min 12W, 20W is better). It will pay itself back. You pay a lot in the teahouses to get your phone charged (a lot of them also use solar power).
- I personally prefer not to rent climbing gear but to take my own. I always hike and climb with the same pair of C boots with semi-automatic crampons. My C boots are big enough to wear 2 pair of socks if necessary. My smartwhool socks were warm enough on the summit day (-10 to -15 °C)
- Take a porter. They are not expensive and your hiking comfort will increase a lot.
- Don't forget to use sunscreen, especially on the summit day when you leave at 2 am in the dark and you're not thinking about the sun at that time.
- Make sure you are in excellent physical shape. After the summit, you will need 3 more days to get to Lukla.
Beyond the almighty Himalayans lies the isolated land, Dolpo, with its own unique geography, culture and ecosystem. This region was not open to outsiders until the 1990s, meaning that the beauty of this area is still fresh and not affected by the outer world. Situated between the Tibetan plateau and Dhaulagiri range, it is a mixture of Tibetan culture and Nepalese culture.

The visitor to this region will be confronted with mesmerizing views of the gigantic mountain peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanjirowa mountain ranges. Similarly, the trek travels via different Himalayan passes where you can enjoy the beauty of Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal. You may also get to see beautiful and rare animals like the snow leopard.
This region will surely inspire you as it has so many others. To some, the area may already be familiar: the Oscar-nominated movie, The Caravan, was filmed in the Dolpo region, and the books “The Snow Leopard” by Peter Matthiessen and “Himalayan Pilgrimage” by David Snellgrove also contributed a lot to expose the Dolpo to the outer world.
Though this trek can be physically challenging, the region is no less than a Himalayan heaven.

The jungle experience was brilliant. Being surrounded by so much nature and wildlife was a lot of fun. Everyone in Sauraha was really friendly and welcoming. The hotel I stayed at was lovely, with delicious food and a comfortable, spacious room with a great shower. I didn't enjoy seeing so many captive elephants as they looked really sad but I was given the option to not go on the elephant ride so I got an extra jeep safari experience which I enjoyed. I really loved the canoe experience too.

Ganesh from the local operator organized a Gokyo-EBC Trek for me. As I was trekking alone, I could change my program anytime. I could count on him all the time, so I managed to make a great trek (my 9th in Nepal!). My guide Shiva was amazing: always there when I needed him, not there when he realized I wanted to be on my own and enjoy the fantastic views. A great experience, would always recommend Ganesh & his team. I hope to realize my last "dream trek" also with them: Mustang!
My friend and I have agreat time in upper mustang in last Mei 2025. This trip arranged very well. The guide and the driver will take care of you, not only professionally but like a family. They have a good knowledge about the place, we have a very good time there.

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions our trip to Gokyo Lake was canceled. Mr Prakash arranged in very short notice a new trek to Annapurna Circuit. In this way, we didn't lose too much time to still enjoy beautiful Nepal. Service provided by Nepal Guide Treks & Expedition was excellent. Everything was arranged nicely. No comments at all. Especially I want to thank our guide (Krishna Malla) and our porters (Birendra Malla and Tilak Malla) being such professional, nice, funny and friendly guys who helped us with everything during our trek.
Makalu Base Camp is a great trekking area and a camping trek. Makalu Base Camp is one of the most remote and unfrequented areas of Nepal. This trek offers wilderness and stunning natural scenery and takes you to the Makalu Base Camp (5,250 m), located in Makalu Barun National Park. The incredible biodiversity of the area provides a living laboratory for international scientific research. There are spectacular views of rugged Himalayan peaks, including Mt. Makalu (8,463m), fifth highest mountain in the world, Mt. Chamlang (7,319 m) and Mt. Baruntse (7,129m). Within 40km, all of these high peaks descend into the Arun River at 670m. The Makalu-Barun Valley provides stunning contrasts with craggy rocks rising from lush green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks. The trek starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and heads up the Arun River valley to Sedua and Num. I recently did a trek to Mera Peak with this local operator. I highly recommend them as a trekking company. The company is very efficient and communication with them was very good and prompt prior to and after the trip. The booking process was very straightforward and easy. The company provided us with Down Jacket, sleeping bag and walking poles for the trek which were all of excellent quality.
The team of guide and porters were fantastic, they were always willing to assist and support throughout the trip and always went above and beyond.

I met Mr. Khum SUBEDI, Managing Director, in the taxi receiving me at my arrival at Kathmandu airport. We met again the next day and he proposed me a special trekking program adapted to my level of physical fitness, adding Muktinah to the Poon Hill usual program. The price was reasonable and he took news from me during the whole trip. Mr. SUBEDI is a nice guy and a real professional.
My guide, Raju KANDEL, was excellent. He was very helpful but not intrusive. He proposed an alternative plan to make the trip more interesting. The places we stayed were very well chosen. He even took good care of me when my legs were painful after going down too long
It was a pleasure to hike with him during the day and to share a beer in the evening. He was quite a friend.
