The Upper Mustang trek leads you into the hidden kingdom of Mustang, also called Lo. The ultimate destination of this trek is Lo-Manthang, the capital of Upper Mustang. Mustang is an arid, treeless land of monasteries. 07:30 AM: Depart for Cai Be by van/bus via Trung Luong Expressway.
Upon arrival in Cai Be, have a boat ride to the remaining site of a renowned wholesale floating market on the Tien River many years ago. This site entitles you to know something about the local trading habit that has changed due to the age of the modern society when more terrestrial transportation and high technique of agriculture have dominated everywhere. There, you can realize how diverse the area is and how rich orchard gardens are, which makes it the basket of fruit in the lower part of the Mekong River.
Ramble in small villages where you will uncover the beauty of an ancient house and learn about the indigenous culture. Make a short visit to a small family business where the locals make coconut fudges and crispy rice popcorn. Savor delicious fresh fruit and feel the slow rhythms of Southern Vietnamese folk music – a kind of music entwined with the life and culture of the Mekong Delta people. Join us on this full-day tour of two of the most important sites in Mongolia: Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex and Terelj National Park.
The Chinggis Khaan statue is a 40-meter tall stainless steel statue representing the founder of the Mongol empire on a horseback. It is the world's tallest equestrian statue. Located on the north of Tuul river, the statue faces east toward Khaan's birthplace. Visitors can walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck, from where they can have a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. There is also a museum exhibiting artefacts relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia, and to the Great Khaan period in the 13 and 14th centuries.
After the tour of the statue complex, you will visit Terelj National Park, which is set in a spectacular valley only an hour drive from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Visitors can view fascinating rock formations against a backdrop of pine-covered mountains and wander along the tree covered banks of mountain stream. They can also stay overnight in a snug Mongolian Ger (traditional Mongolian dwelling) or in cozy guest rooms. It is an ideal place for taking a trip on horse along the Tuul river or the valley and visiting a local family.

Meet your tour guide at our sales office early in the morning for a forty-minute drive to Pak Ou Village where you are free to explore the many crafts that the locals make before crossing the mighty Mekong River by a small boat to the base of a limestone cliff, the site of the Pak Ou Caves. Take your time to explore the impressive lower grottos filled with Buddhist statues and scented with burning incense. Grab a flashlight and head up through a winding series of stairs to find another fascinating and easily navigable cave filled with ancient Buddhist relics.
Enjoy your lunch before crossing the Mekong again by boat and continue with a drive downriver for one and a half hours to the famous Kuang Si Waterfall. On the way, we’ll stop to see the popular Whiskey Village where you have the option to sample the locally made Lao Lao.
The jungle around the waterfall remains lush and beautiful year-round. The waterfall cycles between placid, turquoise waters during the dry season to impressive, roaring falls during the rainy season. Either way, you’re in for a refreshing and beautiful nature experience. Integrated into the landscape is an Asiatic bear sanctuary where you can see these beautiful creatures up close and support efforts to care for the animals in the area.
We’ll end this full-day trip with a return drive to Luang Prabang late in the afternoon.
Please note that the stairs in the lower Pak Ou Cave are short but steep. Access to the upper cave is via a fairly long series of stairs and can be taken at your own pace.
The Pak Ou Cave and Kuang Si Waterfall lie to the north and south of Luang Prabang city, respectively. This tour will take you to both these highlights, with a scenic drive up and down the length of the Mekong River between.

Walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace with the great Chairman Mao's portrait on it; you come to this morning's highlight - the 600-year-old Forbidden City - the largest and the most intact imperial palace complex of the Ming and Qing Courts (1368 - 1911 AD).
The majestic Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms! Which are the most essential and interesting parts? We will spend three hours or so exploring the main buildings centering upon the central axis, which splits the entire compound into two symmetrical halves.
After the trip is completed, you will find yourself already near the North Gate of the Forbidden City. It’s your choice to leave with your guide or take advantage of your ticket to linger inside longer to explore the Imperial Garden for more photos. There are cafes and Beijing snacks sold in the peripheral zone, so you can just tackle your lunch here before continuing your own exploration.
