Itinerary

Craving adventure far from the tourist crowds? The "Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek" in Bhutan leads you on a rare, 8-day journey—6 days trekking—across a landscape of sparkling high-altitude lakes, wildflower meadows, and yak-herder huts with barely another traveler in sight. Designed for young adults and seasoned hikers who relish a challenge, this moderately strenuous trek rewards every ounce of effort with sweeping vistas of the Himalayas, including iconic peaks like Everest, Jumolhari, and Masanggang.

As you traverse peaceful trails, you’ll experience Bhutanese culture up close, passing through remote villages and stopping at ancient Buddhist fortresses and monasteries. The trek is punctuated by moments of serene beauty: watch the sunrise over snow-capped mountains, spot grazing yaks, and rest by crystalline lakes that mirror the sky. It’s a journey that invites you to unplug from daily life and immerse yourself in the tranquility and traditions of Bhutan.

One of the unique selling points of this tour is its off-the-beaten-path nature—offering solitude and authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere in the Himalayas. Best undertaken between April-June or September-October, this trek promises both cultural enrichment and breathtaking natural landscapes, making it ideal for adventurers who want to go beyond the ordinary.

Incredible Bhutan Experience

We have joined a group tour organized by this local travel specialist for Dagala Thousand Lakes trip in 2019. It was one of the most scenic treks that I have ever been to. All along the way you will be greeted by towering Himalayas like Mountain Jumolhari, Kanchenjunga, Tsheringma and on occasion you may see Mount Everest as well. I took this trek on end of May when the wild flower was in bloom. The trek also gives you a glimpse of many glacial lakes. We had a wonderful trekking experience with the agency. Thank you. Note: Please bring warm clothes as it can get chilly on such elevation even during May month.

Wonderful Trekking Experience

The trek started from a remote village in Thimphu and the trekking trail offered breathtaking views of gorgeous mountains. We were able to see the entire Himalayan ranges and came across plentiful of crystalline lakes. The 5 days trek was not very strenuous and we were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and tranquility of secluded mountains high above sea level. The tour ended with a hike the signature spot of Bhutan, Paro Taktsang which was a great experience. The highlights of the tour were mountains- lakes and Taktsang
