This is the first year for this holiday, so tweaks need to be made. The first walk seemed rather pointless and there were so many mosquitoes we couldn't stop to eat our packed lunch. Albi our leader changed the order of certain elements and thereby improved the offering. Some of the walks were really great. It was the last trip of the season and in the quieter seaside resorts just about everything was closed. Before attracting more tourists Albania needs to address single use plastics, litter, public toilets, planning; please don't make the mistakes of other countries. But people were friendly and helpful.
This fast-paced journey through Albania gave us a great feel of Albania and covered most of the South. From morning swims in Lake Ohrid to soaking in the hot springs near Permet at sunset and exploring the Adriatic at Porto Palermo. Each day offered something new, with just one night in most hotels to maximize our time. Exploring Berat’s castle in the evening, spotting bunkers across the countryside, and ending in the picture-perfect town of Krujë made for unforgettable moments. Our guide was wonderful—his deep love and knowledge of Albania brought each stop to life.
An enlightening, entertaining experience in a country with a past that most of us can barely begin to comprehend. Stunning scenery, some ancient architecture, mixed with the more mundane day to day reality of life.
It's a fascinating country with a lot to offer. There is so much history and the people are very friendly and genuinely interested in you. I would recommend this trip to anyone.
The leader was not entirely familiar with the all the trails. The first walk at the Pashaliman Naval Base was mosquito infested, no mention was made of this before departure so no repellent applied or mosquito protective clothing worn. The path was also extremely overgrown with sharp low bushes. Needless to say my face, arms and legs were covered in bites as well as unnecessary scratches to my legs. Our final walk from Kudhes to Qeparo was also spoilt at the end by dead ends and overgrown paths. I appreciate that my trip was at the end of the season when maintenance to the trails was no longer a priority to the authorities. However, local knowledge should have been sort before embarking on both these hikes.
This is going to be long. My TA Alice from Vancouver, Canada is very fast efficient with how she managed the booking and got me answers for most of my questions Coming back to the hotels : Best part is in every single hotel my room was near the elevator because I am traveling with a child this was thoughtful-love it. Most of the hotels were nice, breakfast was adequate, meals were fine as well where they were included. No issues, no complaints Regarding the tour bus - the small bus was fine for 20 odd people and drivers were excellent and did a wonderful job, if possible please add free WIFI on the bus Regarding the tour guides Eng speaking only - Most of them were alright but as a traveller, I expect them to talk more about the countries we were passing thru. Yes, the gap was filled by the local city guides however time is short and we are on the bus driving long distances so info can be filled. They should be provided with matter that the guides can then talk to us about. I find a huge gap in the knowledge level of spanish guides versus english guides on the tour Europamundo app on my phone : Since my trip in 2022, the app has been upgraded and I see watsap contacts of transfers with 3rd party contractors which is really helpful
