Reviews of our Bucharest Tours for October
Feedback from guests whose tour started in/around Bucharest during October.
Our tour leader Radvan Moldovan was well organised, thorough, considerate and humorous. He provided an interesting and well-informed background to the area and the culture. The guest house and hut staff were also very helpful and the accommodation was good. The first two days of the walk provided a warm up to days 3 and 4 which were challenging, but satisfying, for me. The ridge walk was somewhat strenuous but absolutely spectacular- making all the other efforts more than worthwhile. I can thoroughly recommend this trip for anyone who is physically fairly fit and without knee or ankle problems (there is a lot of steep downhill). I had not used walking poles before but found them very helpful on this trip.
The leader was incredibly knowledgeable and gave excellent guidance and incredible proactive with the group. Bucharest was interesting and clearly developing. Luckily we did get to see the bears, though to be mindful there is no guarantee and is a small part of the tour. I would have liked longer. The accommodation in Transylvania was in an ideal setting, so the views on the steep walk on the Sunday morning well worth the effort. Whilst it was certainly worth seeing Peles and Pelisor, important you enjoy looking around castles Bran castle was great, and the good to walk around Braşov. I would have cut the time at Braşov and fitted another visit. In addition to note this is basically a 4 day trip. Driving around Transylvania is beautiful and amazing to see.
This is a wonderful holiday with a large number of interesting, beautiful and amazing places to explore, but please do not choose to book it unless you are happy with a full-on experience for the entire two weeks.
This was a fairly tough walking trip, with three challenging days (long days, lots of uphill) and two easier days. Certainly not one for the casual, uncommitted weekend walker! The two-night stay in the basic Curmatura hut was not made easier by the very very limited water supply (it was a trickle). There were 15 of us in the group and I thought that was too many for a hard walking trip of this type; 8-10 would have been ideal. The visits to the two castles (Peles and Bran) do not belong on this trip, in my opinion, as they resulted in unnecessarily late finishes to the walking on those days. The final day (Friday) in Bucharest could have been arranged much better, I thought, to avoid us sitting on a bus in traffic for ages. Why not take people straight to the hotel and then explore the city on foot from there?
The tour company is outstanding. Everything was excellent from airport transfers to our guide Marcel. The company was extremely helpful prior to the trip; answering promptly and completely and securing an extra night for us at the end and ensuring we could stay in the same room. Airport transfers were extremely smooth, even our 3 AM pick up for our return flight. The drivers were polite, the car was spotless and they were on time. The itinerary was amazing showing us the beauty and diversity of the country, from natural wonders, castles, churches, small villages and beautiful historic cities and towns. A perfect route and selection of the many of the best things to do and see. The tour is packed with sights, views and beautiful drives. The only downside is that you are only in a hotel for one night but it is the only way to see as much as we did in 10 days. The hotels were 4 star, unique and located in the perfect location. Our guide, Marcel Ene was a gem. He made the trip perfect in everyway. He was knowledgeable, funny, courteous, helpful and engaging. He told us personal stories to help us gain a deeper understand of the culture, the people and the country. It was like touring with a friend, which he was by the end of the tour. The company and guide pay attention to details to make sure that everything about the trip is memorable and perfect.
George, our guide was fantastic. Very personal and knowledgeable. Chatted, got to know him. Wonderful. Our driver.. wow... Amazing to watch him navigate. Felt safe the whole trip. He never was speeding or driving unsafely. Thanks so much. All the activities were great. Accommodation was spot on. Highly recommend this tour.
