day 1 - Departure from Bucharest
Your trip starts from Bucharest. Meet your tour guide in the city. Transfer to Tulcea, the place where the Danube River splits into three narrow channels.
The Danube Delta is a unique biosphere reserve filled with rare species of plants and birds. It is the perfect place to enjoy the unspoilt beauty of nature. All of these qualities have earned the delta a spot on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Travel to a traditional fishing village located in the heart of the Danube Delta, Mila 23. The village was founded by the Lipovans, a group of Russian refugees, and it blends in perfectly with the surrounding scenery. Stay overnight in Mila 23.
day 2 - Danube Delta – Sulina
Take a trip to Sulina, one of the oldest human settlements in Romania, by following the Danube branch that goes by the same name. The port of Sulina was mentioned for the first time more than 1,000 years ago under the name of Selina, and it the easternmost point in Romania. Row down the tributary of the Danube and enjoy countless species of birds, water snakes and fish.
Visit the most important landmarks of the village: old churches, the 55-feet tall lighthouse located in the middle of the town, the museum located in a lighthouse, and the St. Alexander and St. Nicholas Cathedral, an important tourist attraction that was built over the course of 62 years, between 1910 and 1982.
You have the option of enjoying a warm and delicious lunch at a local guesthouse on the shore of the Danube Delta before driving to the nearby beach by bus. Swim in the sea, walk on the beach and discover the local wildlife. You can taking a relaxing walk to the beautiful Sulina Cemetery before reuniting with the rest of the group on the beach.
Take a boat back to the local guesthouse where you will spend the night.
day 3 - A day trip to the Letea Village and a nearby forest
Travel to Letea, a beautiful village filled with numerous traditional houses built with wood and clay and with thatched roofs painted in lively shades of blue and green. Take an off-road tour of the nearby Letea Forest, the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe, and see the world’s only oak forest on salty sands as well as lianas, a subtropical flora that cannot be found elsewhere in Romania. You might even get the chance to see wild horses roaming around.
Take a short walking tour of the village once you are back from the forest. Capture the photos of traditional houses that still stand in this forgotten corner of the world. Chat with the locals and taste some fruits from the nearby trees.
Lunch will be served in the guest house. You have the rest of the day for yourself. Go fishing. Walk around the village. Or just take rest in your room. In the evening, some local fishermen will organize an outdoor cooking session using the simple, traditional means used by the first inhabitants of these places.
At dusk, head out to watch the sun set through the willows of the Danube Delta.
day 4 - Back to Bucharest
Leave the wilderness behind and head back to Bucharest, where you will be transferred back to your hotel.
