day 1 - Welcome to Romania

Your tour guide will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel in the center of Bucharest. Use this day to relax or to explore the city on your own. Go for a walk in the city center and enjoy a cup of coffee in one of the city's modern cafes.

day 2 - Explore Bucharest

Discover the capital of Romania, Bucuresti, and see some of the most important attractions in the city. The imposing Palace of the Parliament, the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon, is a highlight of the city. The city is also home to the Romanian Atheneum, a beautiful concert hall famous for its acoustic, as well as the Village Museum, which houses a collection of traditional buildings collected from all over the country.

day 3 - Head for Transylvania & see Horezu Monastery

Head for Transylvania from Bucharest and visit one of the most important Unesco heritage sites in the country, the Monastery of Horezu, which is located in mountains. This monastery derives its name from 'huhurezi' (eagle owls), a species of night birds with colored plumage. According to a legend, the workers hired to build this monastery were forced to work at night, when these birds would sing, out of fear for enemies.

Discover the town of Horezu, famous for its pottery, before transferring to Sibiu. Check into your accommodation in the city on arrival.

day 4 - Explore Sibiu

Although Sibiu is not home to any of Romania's Unesco world heritage sites, we can assure you that you will love this medieval town with large squares and colorful houses. Your guide will show you the main attractions in Sibiu and in the afternoon you will have some free time after that.

day 5 - Be charmed by Sighisoara

After a delicious breakfast, your guide will take you out to explore Sighisoara, yet another Unesco world heritage site in Romania. Discover the beautiful Sighisoara, the only medieval citadel still inhabited in Europe. Travel back to Sibiu in the evening.

day 6 - See the fortified church of Biertan & Valea Viilor

Two traditional villages in Transylvania, Biertan and Valea Viilor, host some of the most famous fortified churches in Transylvania. Among them, there are two that have been listed in Unesco. The fortified church of Biertan, the larger of the two, definitely deserves a stop. Head back to Sibiu in the afternoon.

day 7 - Visit the ancient fortress of Sarmizegetusa Regia

The 2,000-year-old Dacian fortress in the Orastie Mountains is sure to take you with a total surprise! It is very similar to the Stonehenge in England. On the way back to Sibiu, you will stop in Alba Iulia to see its star-shaped citadel.

day 8 - Discover Cluj Napoca during a walking tour

Head to Maramures, home to a fairy tale landscape. Along the way, there is a quick stop to see the most famous salt mine in Romania, Turda Salt Mine. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Cluj before your day comes to an end.

day 9 - Discover Maramures

Today is the first of the two days that you will spend exploring Maramures, visiting its churches and traditional villages. Start with a visit to Barsana, the largest wooden church in Maramures and a Romanian cultural heritage.

Continue to Desesti, a traditional village where you can admire wooden houses unique to this region. In the afternoon, your tour guide will take you to Sapanta, home to the Merry Cemetery.

day 10 - Discover the natural beauty of Maramures

Your second day in Maramures will be dedicated to exploring the natural beauty of this place. Ride an old steam train called Mocanita and travel deep into the woods. Back in the civilized world, we will then transfer you to Bucovina.

day 11 - Visit the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina

Cross the Carpathian Mountains as you head for Bucovina, a land with warm people, a dark history and an impressive number of churches and monasteries. The Painted Monasteries of Bucovina, built between the late 15th to the late 16th century, have their external walls covered with frescoes.

Discover three of these unique monasteries that are part of the Unesco World Heritage list, Moldovita, Sucevita and Voronet.

day 12 - See Suceava's medieval fortress

You will spend your second day in Bucovina visiting a historic city, Suceava, and its medieval fortress. You are free in the afternoon to take in the idyllic landscapes of Romania.

day 13 - Back to Bucharest

It is time to head back to the capital city. On the way back to Bucuresti from Bucovina, you will stop by in Targu Neamt to visit yet another Romanian heritage: Neamt Fortress. Take the long road back to the capital.
