Contrasts of Cyprus Walking

Start off the week in the Troodos Mountains and the stone-built village of Kakopetria, with its narrow, cobbled streets and the nearby 11th century painted church, Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, one of ten that make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Painted Churches in the Troodos Region. Enjoy fabulous views across the Solea and Marathasa valleys to the sea as well as the northern slope of Mount Olympus - the highest point in Cyprus and home to both a long-range British radar installation and a ski resort in winter. The next part of your trip heads towards the Northwest and Droushia with walks across the Laona Plateau with its picturesque stone-built villages. There's also the possibility of visiting a local winery. Enjoy fabulous panoramic views as you head towards the coast at delightful Lara Beach and the dramatic Avakas Gorge Nature trail. The Cyprus holiday was excellent. The leader was very well informed, a pleasure to be with and bonded with the group, who were also a great bunch. The weather was unseasonably cold the first few days and the hotel was a bit cold, although at least the weather was dry with some sun improving to lovely sun by the end of the week. The leader packed in lots to see, and slightly more relaxation time would have been welcomed by me.

In spite of the unexpectedly cold weather in late February, I had a great week walking in Northern Cyprus. The walks were varied & interesting. Mehmet was a fantastic guide & couldn’t do enough for us all. His enthusiasm for people, nature & life in general was infectious & our group bonded well under his care. I hope to return a week or so later one year to find the elusive Cyprus tulip 😊

The walks were amazing, the food was great, the hotel was excellent being about a 20 minute walk from the beautiful harbour of Kyrenia and the weather was warm after a wet first morning!

A beautiful country.

A wonderful walking holiday in a beautiful part of the world. The highlight for me will always be the castles. Spectacular location and amazing views. Our guide Gizer was amazing and gave us a wonderful overview of North Cyprus. Very centrally located accommodation with easy access to the charming centre of Kyrenia.

Great walking holiday learning about the history of North Cyprus along the way

Overall an enjoyable week of walking with a great guide (Gizer) and driver (Omer). The walks were as stated in the trip notes and places visited were definitely well worth the walks. A great group of 11 in total, that definitely helped make the week a lovely break. The hotel Pia Bella is well situated in Kyrenia, with excellent facilities, and the staff were all very helpful. If you enjoy walking and visiting historical sites, this trip is for you.
