About

My name is Phivos and I have been involved in ventures related to nature and cultural heritage, what I term as 'authentic ecotourism’, in Cyprus since 2002. I was born in Famagusta and have lived in Mesaoria, the Pentadaktylos Mountains, and Nicosia. I studied computer science in London and earned an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

I have extensively explored the countryside on foot and bike, and the coastal sea on kayak, boat, and waterbike. I have lots of experience with the environment and tourism, from authoring nature guides on Cyprus, to collaborating on photography and videography of the country, designing many walking routes around Cyprus. I am also a certified first aid and lifeguard and have been a diver since the late 80s!

During my free time, I like to play the clarinet and besides my native language Greek, I am fluent in English, Spanish and German. I also speak some French and Chinese (Mandarin).

Phivos's Travel Expertise

I cover the whole island. At the same time, with regard to work, I focus on the free part of Cyprus. The effort is always to offer the visitor the best that the island has to offer in terms of beautiful nature as well as its rich cultural heritage.

My main expertise lies in exploring Cyprus on foot, on a kayak, and snorkeling.

For walking trips, I usually recommend routes (many composed by myself) around Troodos, the Akamas peninsula, and the Laona Plateau (also Cape Greko combined with kayaking and/or snorkeling).

For kayaking trips, I prefer the coast of Cape Greko and Ayia Napa, and to a lesser extent on the north coast of Akamas, Pomos, Pissouri Bay to Aphrodite's Rock, Pentakomo coast, Xylofagou coast, Episkopi and Pyrgos Tyllirias.

I can also create itineraries where travelers can sightsee cities, depending on the travelers’ interest and preferences. I generally recommend the exploration of Paphos, (medieval) Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta (and Varosha).

Phivos's best travel experience

A long time ago, I explored Guatemala on my own (I spent three weeks in Costa Rica and decided that I wanted to see something different as well). While staying in Antigua (a highly recommended medieval city) relaxing and doing private Spanish lessons, I took a long trip by bus to the Mayan city of Tikal. It's one of the places in the world that I found unforgettable. Taking a trip on my own made it easier to mingle with other people. I had the opportunity to get to meet a Guatemalan teacher together with his son a bit, as well as a young Guatemalan lady on the night back to Antigua. I vividly remember singing 'You're my favorite waste of time' with the lady on the bus.

Life is full of small moments. Explore and live our precious time!
