A lovely sunny week in November in North Cyprus. A very enjoyable trip with a week of medieval castles, wonderful sea views and rewarding walks through pine forests and on mountain slopes. Interesting recent history of the island too.
interesting trip with friendly nine others guide good hotel good but 1.5 miles from town and harbour requiring taxi to pass unlit military base on the way friendly staff throughout interesting walking, mild hiking to Crusader castles but don't expect top level attractions rather an off beat safe destination dominated by Turkish and North Cypriot flags. Seems very secular which was surprising. optional day trip midweek to Faagusta and Ghost Town on the border 55gbp worth it
Nice Hotel and a good Guide but Kyrenia much more sprawling than I’d imagined so lots of travelling & traffic to get anywhere. Also whilst easy walks in the mountains were good, it was disappointing to see the historic buildings which had been neglected whilst the coastline seemed to include a lot of half built, but then abandoned, new developments. The Organised trip on the Optional day probably tried to fit too much in so we only had an hour to look around in Famagusta which I felt deserved more time.
This trip was my first experience of a group walking holiday and I had a great time. I was a little nervous as to whether the walks would be too challenging but our guide was very supportive and made sure the pace was right. The trip combined hikes with visits to historic sites and tastings of local produce which worked well for me. Our hotel was clean and comfortable but I would have preferred a more central location. Our guide was excellent and shared his enthusiasm for nature and wildlife. I loved the opportunities to swim, but the 2 beaches visited were a little disappointing.
The walking was excellent, and our guide Gizer was brilliant and very professional. The hotel was a bit shabby and the food was mediocre. The staff were OK, however and the room was good. Two of our party were fed up that the lunches (included in the cost) were not proper sit-down affairs in a taverna with hot food. Their moaning was rather annoying, as were not unhappy, but perhaps Exodus could make the type of lunches plainer in the trip notes.
Issues with the company about pick up and drop off from airport on the day which they refused to do (though they advertise it as such). Hotel was nice and met description but isolated from the town. Guide was good and walks were very good. Company made some late changes but these were for the better. Overall it was well organised once it started in Kyrenia.
