Reviews of our Cyprus Tours for April
Feedback from guests who toured Cyprus during April.
Excellent trip combining varied walks in the mountains or coastal paths along with visiting historic sites and being welcomed into local homes to sample life in North Cyprus. Our guide Tuğberk was very experienced and knowledgeable, he is also a biologist and knew so much about the spring flowers and nature that we came across, some of them endemic to the island. I love travelling in spring for this reason alone: its perfect weather, not too hot and everywhere is lush and green, I’ve never seen so many different types of flowers. I loved hearing about the complex history of Cyprus, and he tried to cover as much as possible and was very helpful in answering any questions we had. Some of the walks were challenging in parts, definitely use a pole as there are some steep moments but it’s always so rewarding for the amazing views and sense of achievement. I must also mention the brilliant cheery driver Mehmet who clearly loves his job and the gorgeous intern Damla who will make an excellent guide one day, she was a great addition to the mix and was so kind and helpful. We stayed at the Ship Inn which is in Zeytinlik about 40 mins walk from Kyrenia but you can jump on a local dolmuş (80tl) which takes you near to the lovely port, which has plenty of good places to eat and drink. There are a few places to eat nearby, we loved the Heybe Corba which did a great kebab with a free water/tea for about 600tl, the hotels food was abit expensive but really good. I loved the hotel, it was very clean, rooms were spacious with a balcony, great pool, and bar. Breakfast was good. There was a pack lunch every day, it was abit too much for me and an extra weight to carry, I felt bad that couldn't eat much of it as it was quite stodgy and pastry based, it needed to be half the size and maybe more varied with a sandwich instead some days but I like that it was supporting a small local business that provided the food. Most people fly in from the UK to Larnaca in the south, but I flew from Turkey into Ercan (it was a 1-hour flight from Antalya for £26!) so, maybe consider coming in that way as I had combined it with time in Turkey beforehand. Overall, I really enjoyed this trip, it was a great bunch of people (11 of us in total, which was a good size). We had such a laugh and got to experience some gorgeous walks in the mountains and see many beautiful things. I was tired but happy by the end, thank you to everyone that was there, you made it a very memorable adventure 🙂.
This week had it all treading a good balance between some culture and the lovely walking in the hills of northern cyprus. Our guide, Gizer, made the trip very relaxing giving us just the right amount of information at the right time so we were always aware of what to expect the next day. It was also very interesting to hear about the situation between northern cyprus and cyprus. I would definitely recommend this trip. The three meals that Gizer organised for the group were delicious.
I had been looking at doing this trip for a few years and it did no disappoint. The walks provided both lots of historical interest and stunning views. Our guide, Gizer, was excellent and told us not only about the ancient but also the more recent history of Cyprus. He also pointed out the flora and fauna on our walks. The optional free day is a must and everyone in our group went.
This trip was fantastic for me because of the combination of the walks and the culture. The walks were quite varied and the castles and monasteries added to the variety. It was a little warmer than I expected (mid 20s) but I know three weeks earlier there was snow so I think late March/early April is a great time to do this tour, it also being an ideal time for the wild flowers. The hotel is very nice and a well located base for the week's activities. Our tour leader Gizer was excellent in terms of both his organisation of the trip and his knowledge on the history and the flora and fauna. He joined us for three evening meals, the other evenings were on our own but all Gizer's suggested restaurants were very good. The optional trips to Famagusta and Nicosia (not currently on the itinerary but it seems usually an option on the final day) were both well worth doing. Our group got on with each other really well which added to a great trip.
We enjoyed an interesting week of hiking and learning with a fantastic guide, Gizer, and a very friendly group. The distances and terrain were different each day and all very interesting and well thought out. Late March is a terrific time to go as not too hot and an abundance of wildflowers in bloom. Our guide was a true professional and we feel went above and beyond to make our trip interesting and enjoyable. The extent of his knowledge in all things, flora, fauna, history, and food was so helpful. The staff at the center based hotel was excellent, as was the food! The history and beauty of North Cyprus is not to be missed. We’re so glad we went!
Having had a busy year with house renovations, we left our holiday booking rather late. We always plump for warmth, we like islands, exploring and walking. Two years ago we managed a brief border crossing in Cyprus when visiting the old walled city. That was a highlight and so I was delighted when John suggested joining a guided walk in North Cyprus this year. The booking was simple, making us wonder if we had completed everything necessary. A few days later following phone calls to let us know things were in hand, our booking was confirmed. We were able to join the group flight to Ergo, transfers and accommodation were complete. Everything fell into place, the hotel was excellent making an extra effort to give us a truly memorable Christmas. Our group of 16 fellow walkers gelled really well and our Austrian leader ensured each day went smoothly.
