Croatia Trekking and Hiking Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Trekking and Hiking Croatia tours

The trip was a well planned and executed family orientated holiday. I feel that two "On Board" guides was unnecessary - the shore guides were excellent and added good value.

Excellent tour of Bosnia & Montenegro

Excellent tour of Bosnia & Montenegro, with its variety of scenery and fascinating history. Organisation and itinerary were very good. The tour was fairly full on, but no early starts or really long journeys. We were quite a large group,17 of us, but fortunately the tour bus was quite spacious and we got on really well. Food was good. Hotels were variable. The tour leader, Fatima, was very good, as were the local guides. As we only had a few hours in Dubrovnik it would have been good to have a short guided tour there.

Excellent

Love the exposure to the architecture , love the exposure to culture, and love the exposure to traveling with a great group of people from all over the world and ALWAYS, a fantastic CEO!

I really enjoyed this holiday, Croatia is lovely and this is a beautiful part of it. Charming little villages on the top of hills, fantastic coastline and clear sea, interesting and lovely walking. We had a good group and an excellent, charming and enthusiastic guide who added to the whole experience. One of the highlights was the safari ‘cafe’ on the cliff tops and food altogether delicious, beautifully cooked fish. A really enjoyable, relaxing holiday combined with good exercise and interest - well recommended

Excellent

This was a great tour and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Every day was a new adventure and the places we visited were extraordinary in terms of Beauty, culture and history. The tour is also very good value for money.

We had an enjoyable week with some lovely coastal and inland walks. All were easy to moderate except the 7 waterfalls where there was a 30 m scramble with some supporting cables and footholds. The visit to an agriturismo was a particularly good day. We would have liked a bit more detail on some of the ancient historic sites we visited. Danko was a very helpful guide and made a point of conversing with everyone. The hotels were all satisfactory with excellent breakfasts and comfortable rooms

Croatia Hiking Tours

Highlights of Croatia hiking tours

  • Get off-the-beaten path on the Trail of 7 Waterfalls for classic backcountry Croatia hiking. As a circular day hike that starts and ends in Buset, it’s a perfectly picturesque introduction to Croatia hiking tours.
  • Chase waterfalls in the iconic Krka National Park. Spanning over 109 square kilometers, you could easily spend your whole trip exploring the various hiking trails and waterfalls, including the famous Skradinski Buk and Roski Slap and even the Visovac Monastery!
  • Test your endurance on a multi-day hike along the Dalmatian Coast. Typically starting your tour in Dubrovnik and finishing in either Split for shorter routes or Zadar for longer 8-day itineraries, it’s one of the best ways to experience Croatia with sea views, the opportunity to walk in Napoleon’s shoes, and seeing the stunning lavender fields of Hvar.
  • Experience the pilgrim lifestyle on the Camino Krk. This 7-day, 150-kilometer trail takes place on the stunning and historic island of Krk, offering beautiful coastal views and opportunities to pass through several towns like Baska, Vrbnik, and Malinska.
  • Head into the mountains and caves of the Paklenica National Park. Located just south of the mighty Velebit Mountains, this expansive national park allows you to enjoy Croatia hiking tours that come with a bit more elevation and incline trickery. Make those legs burn!

Travel tips for hiking tours in Croatia

  • Heading out on a Croatia self-guided hiking tour? Make sure you familiarize yourself with a paper map of the area and share your location with a few people back home. While Croatia isn’t an especially dangerous place to hike, some trails aren’t as well marked as they could be.
  • Do not try to swim in Krka National Park without asking at the park office. It’s tempting after a long day of hiking in the Croatian heat, but as far as we know, there has been a ban on swimming since 2021 to protect the sensitive natural environment from hordes of tourists.
  • Bring cash with you on multi-day trails. While major cities and tourist locations in Croatia are card-friendly, many of the smaller rural towns and villages may not accept cards, so come prepared so you don’t go hungry!
  • Bring plenty of loose, long layers for the Dalmatian Coast hikes. Although it’s a sunny and warm part of Croatia, the sea winds can make the route cooler, and the sun can be super harsh with little cover. Get both bases covered with lightweight layers like a linen shirt or lighter hiking shell pants.
  • Book your campgrounds in advance, especially in the peak summer season. Wild camping is not allowed in Croatia, and you can face up to a USD 400 fine if caught. It’s not worth it. Hiking tours and camping tours often go hand in hand, so book ahead to avoid disappointment.
