Is a senior tour in Costa Rica right for you?

You want Costa Rica’s nature without exhausting travel days

Costa Rica may be small, but travel between Monteverde, Arenal, Manuel Antonio, and Tortuguero can be slow on winding roads and mountain routes. Senior tours make the journey easier with private transfers, 4x4 vehicles where needed, and short domestic flights on some routes. That means less time recovering from bumpy drives and more time enjoying cloud forests, volcano views, beaches, and rainforest wildlife.

You want expert guides who help you actually spot wildlife

Costa Rica’s wildlife is everywhere, but much of it is easy to miss without a trained eye. Sloths, quetzals, capuchin monkeys, toucans, and red-eyed tree frogs often blend into the forest. Senior-friendly tours usually include licensed naturalist guides with spotting scopes in places like Manuel Antonio, Carara, Monteverde, Tortuguero, and Caño Negro. For birders, photographers, and first-time visitors, that guide can make the whole trip.

You want lodges chosen for comfort, not just views

Many Costa Rica lodges are beautiful but built into hillsides, forests, or beach cliffs, which can mean steep paths, uneven steps, and long walks to rooms. Senior tours usually pre-check the terrain, room access, bathroom setup, and walking distances before booking. Around Arenal, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, or Bajos del Toro, that kind of vetting matters. You still get the rainforest atmosphere, just without surprise stair workouts.

You want soft adventure, not forced adventure

A senior tour in Costa Rica does not have to skip adventure; it simply makes it more manageable. Hanging bridges, hot springs, gentle rafting, wildlife cruises, and easier zipline options can be included without pushing everyone into high-adrenaline activities. Rafting is usually kept to gentler rivers, and walks are paced with stops. The point is not to remove the thrill, but to keep it safe, optional, and enjoyable.

Reviews of our Costa Rica Tours for Senior Citizens

Our senior travelers love their Costa Rica journeys — here's what they say.

John B. | Traveled in July

Our tour manager was excellent. She had a great eye for spotting large and small native flora and fauna. We felt like we saw the best of Costa Rica in a little over a week.

It was a most enjoyable trip. Coming back home everyone was anxious waiting to hear about this trip. Costa Rica is a beautiful country, with friendly people, and clean delicious food. Incredibly fortunate I was able to have this experience. The Arenal volcano, the hanging bridges, the beach, it was great!!!

This was our first Collette tour and there is no reason we would not consider another. Our tour leader was superb and hotels and tours were great. I do not have a favorite experience as everything was varied and enjoyable.

Well, planned adventure trip for the physically fit. I was not able to participate in many of the adventure events because I have a mobility issue that cropped up right before I left. But overall, it was a great trip well planned well executed super good tour manager.

Calling all birders and wildlife enthusiasts!

As an Exodus employee, this was my first Exodus trip and a fantastic way to experience Costa Rica firsthand. Our leader, Johnny, was outstanding throughout, and the combination of incredible wildlife, beautiful scenery and a welcoming group atmosphere made it a memorable experience. A great trip for solo travellers and groups of friends alike.

It was an amazing exprience. We could not have had a better guide. The time flew by with all the activities and eating. The trip to Tortuguero was way out of my comfort zone and I loved almost everything about it! Then from there it just got more fun. The weather for the most part cooperated. The hanging bridges, the zip lining, the white water rafting. I mean I loved it all. The food was also a big plus. Even with food allergies, there was always plenty to be had. Costa Rica is a beautiful country filled with wonderful people.
