For trekkers searching for a quieter, more scenic alternative to Africa’s busiest peaks, the "Mount Kenya Ascent" tour offers an immersive seven-day trekking adventure beginning and ending in Nairobi. Designed for experienced travelers and seniors with a taste for challenge, this guided trip ventures into Mount Kenya National Park, culminating in a pre-dawn summit of Point Lenana (4,985m/16,355ft)—the highest trekking peak on the massif.
The journey takes you up the Chogoria route, famed for its alpine lakes and excellent acclimatisation opportunities. You’ll traverse lakeside camps at Lake Ellis and Lake Michaelson, ascend to the beautiful Simba Tarn, and enjoy awe-inspiring panoramic views of Batian and Nelion peaks—with Kilimanjaro visible on clear days. The descent on the Sirimon Route offers a peaceful walk through the Mackinder Valley, rounding out a spectacular mountain traverse.
A unique feature of this trek package is the opportunity to experience Mount Kenya’s varied terrain, distinctive Afro-alpine flora, and rare wildlife, all within a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. With fewer crowds than Kilimanjaro and striking visual diversity, this tour is perfect for adventure seekers eager to explore one of Africa’s most beautiful and tranquil trekking destinations.
We had a wonderful Mount Kenya ascent. Our guide Edwin was very experienced and set a slow, measured pace for each day. His team of cook, assistant and porters took exceptional care of us, and enabled us to succeed in our goal of reaching the summit. We cannot recommend the team highly enough.
Our guide Edwin was great. He set a good pace (pole pole meaning slowly slowly) which enabled us to get to the summit. We were also very well looked after by our guide, the cook and all the porters. We have a lot of respect for them all.
