Itinerary

Join us on this five-day Bhutan tour and see the major highlights of the Land of Thunder Dragon. Starting from Paro, this tour will take you to both Thimphu and Punakha, which together form the three largest cities of this country.

We will pick you up on the first day of the tour. Explore Thimphu during a sightseeing tour on the second day and see its major highlights like Tashichho Dzong, a beautiful medieval fortress, the National Library of Bhutan and the National Institute for Zorig Chusum (Bhutan's national arts and crafts school) .

Had for Punakha on the third day of the tour and cross the Dochula Pass (3,080m). If the weather is clear, you will see the majestic Himalayas from the top of the pass. The fourth day of the tour is reserved for what probably is the highlight of their Bhutan tour for many: Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Drive from Thimphu to Paro in the morning and hike uphill to reach this famed monastery.

We will drive you back to the airport after thee tour is over. For more details, please go through the itinerary below.

day 1 - Arrive in Paro & drive to Thimphu

Meet our representative upon landing in Paro. Drive to Thimpu and check into your hotel on arrival. You are free for the rest of the day.

day 2 - Thimphu sightseeing tour

Go out on a guided, sightseeing tour of Thimphu after breakfast. See Tashichho Dzong, a beautiful medieval fortress. See government offices as well as the king's throne room. Visit the National Library of Bhutan next. See a huge collection of manuscripts in the library.

This is followed by a visit to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum (Bhutan's national arts and crafts school) as well as the National Handicraft Emporium. We will then take you to the Memorial Chorten in the capital city that was built in the memory of Bhutan's third king who is popularly regarded as Father of modern Bhutan.

End your day with a sumptuous dinner. Stay overnight in Thimphu.

day 3 - Thimphu – Punakha – Thimphu

Drive to Punakha with your tour guide. This journey takes around three hours and covers 80 km. Cross the Dochula Pass (3,080m) and see the chortens and colorful prayer flags. If the weather is clear, you will get to see amazing views of Masagang (7,158 m), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Gangkar Puensum (7,570 m) and other mountains.

Upon reaching Punakha, you will visit Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 AD. This dzong has played a significant role in the history of Bhutan. Later you will visit Wangdue Phodrang, a small market town that is known for slate carving and bamboo products.

day 4 - Thimphu – Paro & Tiger’s Nest Monastery visit

Retrace the road back to Paro after breakfast. The journey takes less than an hour. Today you will visit what probably is the most famous highlight of Bhutan, Paro Taktsang (popularly known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery).

The journey to Paro Taktsang starts with a half-an-hour drive to north of Paro where you disembark the vehicle and start your hike to the famed monastery located on the face of a sheer cliff above the Paro Valley. The starting point of the hiking trail is near Satsam (2,650 m) from where it climbs steeply uphill to reach Cafeteria (2,940m), an area with an exposed ridge that offers panoramic views of Takstang. This takes little more then an hour and you can rent ponies for this part of the journey if you are unable to carry out the journey by foot.

You can hike further uphill for another hour or so to reach the monastery. There are several other temples and sites within the vicinity of the monastery. Lunch is served at the tea house nearby. The return trip to the road involves a steep, downhill descent.

day 5 - Paro departure

W will drive you to the airport for your flight home after breakfast.
