Karibu! Welcome to Kenya. Your adventure begins in Nairobi – Kenya’s capital – with a welcome meeting at 5 pm tonight. If you and your family arrive early, maybe head out and explore the National Museum of Kenya, visit the Giraffe centre or see the highly recommended Bomas of Kenya, where traditional homesteads of several Kenyan tribes are displayed in an outdoor village. After your meeting, why not join the other families for an optional group dinner.
This morning, set off for the Maasai Mara – keep an eye out for wildlife along the way! You’ll stop in Loita Hills, a remote region where the Maasai people still live much as they have for generations. Visit Tepesua Village and be greeted by Maasai Warriors with songs and dances that the kids will love joining in on. Take a walk with your hosts to the village, meet the community and see what daily life is like here. Then, step inside a traditional Maasai home, where you’ll see where the cattle are kept and learn how important they are to the Maasai. Later, head to the outskirts of the Maasai Mara where your permanent tented camp will be waiting – a fun place for the family to rest before tomorrow’s safari adventure!
This morning, maybe see the open plains from above at sunrise on an optional hot air balloon ride followed by a bush breakfast. After, explore the Maasai Mara National Park with your family on a 4WD safari game drive. Have your cameras ready and keep your eyes peeled for wildebeest, lions, leopards, antelope and giraffes along the way!
Today, journey across the Kenya–Tanzania border to your accommodation in Butiama – the birthplace of Tanzania’s first president. It’s a bit of a long travel day, so this is the perfect time to play road trip games with the family or get stuck into a book. Tonight, you’ll stay in a family-run lodge where the kids will love the chance to jump in the pool or run around the surrounding gardens.
This morning, travel to Serengeti National Park, renowned for its incredible wildlife and vast, open landscapes. After passing through the park gate, you and your family will drive along a scenic safari route to your permanent tented campsite. Along the way, stop to take photos of the roaming wildlife and sweeping views. Tonight, you'll have a true African safari experience – with your camp set right in the heart of the Serengeti. After dinner, gather around the campfire to share stories, then fall asleep to the sounds of the wild.
Wake to another exciting day in Serengeti National Park. Start today with an early morning 4WD safari to spot the wildlife when they're at their most active. Then, return to the camp for a relaxed brunch. You’ll then spend the hottest part of the day chilling out at camp – don't stress, the animals will do the same! This afternoon, you and your family will head off again for another drive through the park to see the animals go about their nightly routine. Later, return to the camp for dinner and another night under the Serengeti's stars.
Set off on your final game drive through Serengeti National Park this morning as you leave your camp and make your way to the park gate. From here, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you’ll switch to 4WD jeeps and descend to the crater floor. The jeeps have open roofs, and the animals here are less wary of humans and vehicles, making it easier to watch them up close! Take in the sweeping views from the crater rim before heading to the bottom, where animals roam the lakes, rivers, woodlands and hills. This afternoon, leave the Ngorongoro Crater and drive to Karatu – a small town on its outskirts and your base for the next two nights.
After breakfast, travel to Lake Eyasi – a large seasonal soda lake. Lake Eyasi has been home to the Hadzabe people for over 10,000 years and is one of the few places in Africa where traditional tribal life continues, largely untouched by modern influences. When you arrive, meet some of the community members and join in on some of their daily activities like hunting, gathering and traditional dance. You’ll also learn about their distinct ‘click’ language, which is one of the oldest languages still in use today. Later today, you’ll return to your lodge in Karatu.
Buckle up your helmet and set off on a guided cycling tour through Mto Wa Mbu Village. Along the way, you and your family will stop at several places including a banana plantation, rice farms, local homes and meet a Tingatinga artist. This afternoon, travel to Arusha. When you arrive, maybe get your family together and find a local restaurant for dinner with your group – a great way to celebrate your last night in East Africa!
Your adventure comes to an end after breakfast today. A departure transfer to either Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) can be booked at an additional expense. Alternatively, you can continue with your crew to finish in Nairobi. If you’d like to spend more time in Nairobi, just speak to your booking agent ahead of time.
