day 1 - Paro tour - Drive Thimphu

On arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be received and escorted to the hotel by our representative. Walk around Paro for lunch before we drive to Thimphu city, the capital of Bhutan. The trip is about 2 hours driving along the Paro Tsu River bank. In the evening there is free time to walk around Thimphu city and rest in your hotel.

day 2 - Thimphu attractions

Today we visit the most significant landmarks of Thimphu city. Visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of a king. Visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved. Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still preserved. Artists are taught to paint thankas here - sacred Buddhist scrolls. We will also visit the Handicrafts Emporium where you can buy Bhutanese textiles and other arts and crafts.

In the afternoon, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, and Tashichho Dzong, the main secretariat building from where the King and other prominent civil servants run the country.

We will also see the Pangri Zampa Monastery situated just beyond Dechencholing Palace, 5 kilometres from Thimphu.

day 3 - Dochula Pass to Punakha Drive

Today, drive to Punakha valley and Wangdi village. On the way, stop at Dochula Pass (3100m) for a hot cup of tea/coffee. On a clear day, you'll have the most spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges.

After lunch, visit the Punakha Dzong, the former winter capital and present administrative seat of the district. It is also the winter residence of the central monastic body. The Dzong (fortress) lies between two rivers, the Pochu and Mochu. Visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong, and fertility temple of Bhutan perched on a promontory outside of Punakha.

day 4 - Travel back to Paro City

Return to Paro city. After lunch, stroll around Paro and shop. We'll visit Taro Dzong in the evening. If the day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, visit the weekend vegetable market. Free time for exploration.

day 5 - Walking tour to Tiger's Nest (Taktsang Monastery)

After an early breakfast, drive back to Taktsang entry point, 15 kilometres from Paro Town. It is about 2 hours' hike to Taktsang Monastery, which is perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of nearly 800m. It is said that in the second half of the 8th century, Guru Padma Sambhava, alighted here upon the back of a tigress. Lunch at Taktsang Cafeteria with an amazing view of Tiger's Nest. In the evening, we'll take a casual stroll through Paro Town for our final night in Bhutan.

day 6 - Transfer to airport and goodbye

After breakfast we'll transfer to the airport for your onward journey back.
