Itinerary
Crete’s southwest coast awaits on the "Crete: Mountains and Coast Guided Walk," an 8-day group walking tour designed for those eager to combine natural beauty, history, and traditional hospitality. Starting and ending in Chania, this moderate-level trip explores the island’s White Mountains, deep gorges, and quiet coastal trails.
Highlights include an ascent of Mount Gingilos, walks through the famed Samaria Gorge—the longest in Europe—and sightings of wild goats and griffon vultures on the Omalos plateau. Alongside visits to ancient cities and fishing villages accessible only by boat, there’s ample time for swimming and relaxation in handpicked hotels.
The unique selling point of this tour package is the opportunity to experience both Crete’s mythic landscapes and its living culture, guided by local experts who reveal the island’s secrets at every turn.
day 1Arrive in the Venetian styled city of Chania
Arrive in Chania. A group arrival transfer can be arranged from Chania airport to the first hotel or you can make your own way to the joining hotel. The historic old town, once occupied by the Venetians and the Turks, is set on and around the hill of Kasteli overlooking the sea. Throughout the walled town there are numerous vestiges of past civilizations including many Byzantine churches. Elaborately decorated Venetian manors coexist with Turkish styled houses in the narrow lanes. Make sure you allow time to soak up the atmosphere around the charming Venetian harbour or the traditional market. In the evening you will meet your guide and group for a briefing, before dinner at a traditional tavern for your first taste of Cretan cuisine. Overnight Chania.
