An extended version of the 8 day walk with shorter days to discover the stunning Scottish Highlands from Loch Lomond to Ben Nevis. This tour follows the 96-mile West Highland Way national long-distance trail through the south-western part of the Scottish Highlands. It is claimed by some to be the most popular long distance trail in the British Isles and is known as Scotland's best loved long distance route. It is the perfect entry-level long distance hike.
This itinerary begins at the official start of the West Highland Way at the obelisk in Milngavie just outside Glasgow. Your walk will include Loch Lomond, valley routes through the mountains round Crianlarich and open heather moorland across the Rannoch Moor wilderness area. You will pass close to sombre Glencoe, famed for its massacre of the MacDonald Clan, and finishes at Fort William near the foot of Ben Nevis. This is Britain's highest peak, which can be readily ascended if you're an experienced walker and aks our team to arrange an extra night in Fort William.
On this itinerary, the long stretch between Ardlui and Inveroran is split over two days. You can also opt for our 8-day itinerary that covers the walk in just one day with the option to shorten the route with an included taxi transfer.
The West Highland Way is a well-established and popular hiking route in Scotland, containing some landscapes of great beauty. The altitude range is from sea level to 1850 ft (4408 ft if Ben Nevis is climbed).
Step into the legends of Scotland with the “Journeys: Discover Scotland” tour, a nine-day sightseeing trip tailored for experienced travelers and seniors seeking easy-paced exploration. Begin in Edinburgh and follow a route through Fort William, Glasgow, and the scenic Highlands, visiting storied castles, Iron Age museums, and ancient ruins. Savor the charm of villages like Pitlochry and Portree, taste famed whiskies at local distilleries, and gaze at glistening lochs nestled among rolling hills. This small group journey ensures every detail—accommodation, transport, meals—is expertly managed, freeing you to immerse in Scotland’s history, folklore, and stunning landscapes. The USP? A thoughtfully curated blend of cultural discovery and breathtaking scenery, capturing the true heart of Scotland at a leisurely pace.
Embark on a 9-day guided walking tour through the storied landscapes of Scotland’s Lewis & Harris, starting and ending in Inverness. This trip features exhilarating hikes across rugged mountains, breathtaking beaches like Luskentyre, and scenic cliffside paths. Along the way, travelers will discover ancient archaeological sites and learn about the rich culture and industry of the Outer Hebrides, also called the Western Isles. A highlight of the adventure is trekking through the otherworldly terrain of the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye, culminating with an overnight in the coastal village of Plockton. The unique selling point of this tour package is its blend of natural beauty, cultural history, and rare local insights, ensuring an unforgettable walking adventure for outdoor enthusiasts.
Walk through the Cheviot Hills from Scotland to England en-route to Britain's very own Galapagos. The St Cuthbert’s Way is a long-distance path that was established in 1996. The route reflects the life of this 7th century monk, extending from Melrose Abbey in the Scottish borders, where he became bishop to the island of Lindisfarne just off the coast of Northumberland in northeast England, where he was buried. So the ‘Way’ links places associated with his life. It includes a variety of delightfully unspoilt countryside: the Tweed Valley (origin of the famous woollen cloth), the Eildon Hills, the Cheviot Hills (origin of one of the most famous breeds of sheep), and the Northumberland coast with its broad horizons, sandy beaches and dramatic contrasts between high and low tide. The small historic towns en route - Melrose, Kirk Yetholm and Wooler - are equally unspoilt and offer a pleasant contrast with the thinly populated countryside. There is an abundance of historical features, including ruined abbeys at Melrose and Lindisfarne, the battle site at Harestanes Moor and old castles. The standard route is intended to be walked in 4 long days, but we have made several modifications to make the day stages slightly shorter and perhaps more interesting. The tour ends on Lindisfarne, but we recommend that if you have time, you opt for the extended tour which takes you back to the mainland and the beautiful village of Bamburgh overlooked by its grand castle and further down the coast, past the magnificent ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle to near the ancient kipper producing village of Craster.
Journey through Scotland on this eight-day adventure from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Travel along the scenic railway through the Scottish Highlands, take in the coastal views with a hike on the Isle of Mull and learn how cheese is made on a tour of the Isle of Mull Cheese Farm. Look for the famous mythical creature as you drive past Loch Ness on your way to Inverness, hear the folk tales about fairies as you explore the Fairy Glen on a daytrip to the Isle of Skye and enjoy plenty of free time to explore Scotland at your own pace with your new friends!
Immerse in an unforgettable journey through Scotland’s untamed nature and heartfelt history. Wind your way through the Highlands to the Isle of Skye with its iconic crags and magical meadows. Explore the evocative stories of Culloden, help restore the forests at Dundreggan, and cruise on the glittering waters of Loch Lomond on a tour that reveals the spirit of this bold and beautiful country.
Walk through the heart of the Scottish Highlands at your own pace. Opened in April 2002, this long distance walking trail travels right through the very heart of Scotland. From Fort William to Inverness you'll discover the highlights that make this area such a magnet for walkers. Pass by the foot of Ben Nevis (1344m), the highest mountain in the UK. Follow undulating forest tracks along the shores of Loch Ness and walk through a mixture of farmland, exposed high moorlands and woodland as you make your way to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. Along the route you will also encounter the forts and castles scattered along the way that lay witness to Scotland's turbulent past, from the Iron Age to the Jacobite Rebellion led by Bonnie Prince Charlie who was finally defeated at the Battle of Culloden.

Despite discussions with travel agent, this novice traveler (& wife) was ill-prepared to "drink from the firehose" of activity within the short period of time this trip provided. To our initial surprise the assigned travel director was not a native to the area. This was quickly overcome as we were quickly made aware of his experience and knowledge which made up for the deficit. The trip offered a range of relatively significant cultural and historical perspectives providing "a little about a lot, not a lot about a little" to this traveler. For this reason, a cautionary travel note is warranted. The relative size of the country is insignificant compared to the socio-cultural impact it has experienced and has provided to the rest of the world throughout the ages i.e. French, English, Spanish, Nordic, etc. The lodging and food experience while culturally-appropriate, was wide ranging in quality providing recollections of the collegiate dormitory experience. Some of the amenities (or lack thereof) are questionable, or may just be one of unexpected cultural differences. Time allotted to site visits appeared to be inadequate for the amount of information available to review and the land area to cover (walk over). Overall, this trip provided a good cultural experience generating some potential consideration for a re-visit to this country - perhaps in a different format.
Unfortunately, while our travel director was receptive to our initial request and researched accommodations for us to visit the castle of my ancestors, much to our chagrin, the schedule and our fatigue did not allow for this to become reality.

Beautiful country with amazing tour director & bus driver. Some hotels were challenging due to no lifts and lots of stairs to climb & tubs too high to climb into. Not suitable for people with mobility issues. Food & hospitality at local venues were amazing.

Scenery was beautiful. Our driver; Arthur was fantastic. Some of the housing was dated and rustic. Some of the dinner meals were less than satisfying and small portions. Felt rushed for many of the breakfast and lunch where we would only have 30 minutes for a group of 40 people. Would have liked to spend more time in some of the towns and areas we visited, but this option was not made available to our group. Should consider adding an additional day or two days to the trip.
