Our tour leader was brilliant. For me much of the accommodation did not reflect the usual qualities that Explore embodies, particularly the Mision Hotel in Oaxaca and the Hotel Quinta Regia in Valladolid which were large sprawling neglected hotels. We also had problems with the transport as the new local provider was initially keen to give us a different driver on a daily basis and provide inadequate minibuses, until the group complained to Explore. Tulum was an endurance of tourist hype but the other sites were fascinating, particularly those that were quieter and remote.
Fantastic experience with so much to see and do
Excellent itinerary and leader. Generally poor accommodation
Tour leader and itinerary excellent but accommodation and breakfasts generally poor Having a fridge as a basic standard in a hot climate is a must but most accommodation did not have this. Sometimes in the same hotel fridges and safes were available but not in Explore's standard rooms Breakfast was often chaotic given other tour groups
Tour guide and itinerary excellent but some of the accommodation was poor eg dark with no fridge and in some cases the bathrooms were not clean. Often better accommodation in the same hotel was available but Explore went for the absolute basic criteria. Breakfast was hit and miss in terms of quality and ambience ( sometimes chaotic with other tour groups)
This is a varied and interesting tour with many unexpected cultural experiences. Ana Davila is an excellent tour leader who brings the archaeological sites, history and her culture to life. Mexico, Belize and Guatemala all have their own characters and it was interesting to see these differences. A fascinating and highly enjoyable tour.
Absolutely fabulous trip. Experienced so many different cultures and saw such a contrast of beautiful countries. Our guide Mayra made the trip so special, her knowledge was incredible and she shared her passion and enthusiasm about all the amazing archaeological sites that we Visted. It’s full on but you are so well guided and looked after that the pace was very manageable and enjoyable. Great tour , great group.
Our trip was excellent. We had a very good itinerary, interesting and varied. We visited amazing archeological sites, saw beautiful landscapes from the volcanos in Sierra Madre to rain forest and a the tropical island of Caye Caulker. An unexpected bonus was seeing lots of wildlife in Guatemala. We also had the opportunity to visit local artisan families and experience life in charming towns. Our tour guide Mayra Fiesco was amazing, she had excellent knowledge and was extremely helpful making everything run smoothly. We also had excellent drivers making us feel safe during all journeys. It was a fantastic holiday!!
Good coverage of cultural highlights Mexico had to offer. Excellent guide. Accommodation in few places esp in Mexico City, Cali and Merida could be better ! Otherwise an excellent trip with good exposure to Mexico !
Great tour. Ana was fantastic. The jungle lodges were excellent. Suggest improvements: Premium hotels need to be more central in the major cities. Location is more important than swimming pools. We missed out in Oaxaca especially. You must include a stop in Puebla, especially as we drive right past it. I visited separately and it’s a great stop off.
Embark on a colorful odyssey through Latin America with the "Contrasts of Mexico + Yucatan Peninsula" tour, a 21-day moderate activity adventure perfect for experienced travelers. Begin in Mexico City and venture through ancient ruins, colonial cities, and lush jungles before crossing into Guatemala and Belize.

The trip features a boat excursion through Sumidero Canyon, offering wildlife sightings amid towering cliffs, and a taste of Mexico’s vibrant traditions—especially if you choose a Day of the Dead departure.
Throughout, the tour offers a blend of sightseeing, cultural immersion, and natural wonders, with all logistics, meals, and accommodations covered. The unique selling point? The diversity of experiences in one seamless itinerary, from ancient civilizations to modern-day fiestas—ideal for travelers who crave depth, variety, and authenticity.
