Our days are filled with scenic rides, experiential excursions and gastronomic delights, and we unwind each night in cozy hotels and charming agriturismi (farm stays).
Meeting in Fabriano, we begin with a paper-making workshop to discover why this town is known as Italy’s “City of Paper.” Crossing the rugged Apennines, we head towards Montecarotto, where we swap our cycling gear for an apiary outfit to become beekeepers for an afternoon. We then ride through an endless sea of vineyards and olive groves, meeting passionate locals and learning about the production of olive oil and natural wines from seed to shelf. The final chapter takes us through Marche’s ‘Land of Castles', where fortified medieval villages crown the hilltops, before arriving at the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea. The tour ends in the historic coastal town of Sirolo

Offering the perfect blend of asphalt roads and rock-strewn backcountry tracks, the north African Kingdom invites riders to enter its ruggedly beautiful and storied landscapes. Just like the merchants who once journeyed along the Trans-Saharan Trade Route, we begin our adventure in the bustling city of Marrakesh. After driving east to the oasis town of Tinghir, the first cycling stage takes us through the wild cliffs of Todra Gorge and into the rural heart of the High Atlas foothills. After an epic climb into the Dades Valley, we coil down some of Morocco’s most iconic switchbacks and ride past crumbling kasbahs and lively Berber villages. Our route then continues over the bone-dry Jbel Saghro, a deeply weathered mountain range with red-stone massifs that gradually fade into desolate plateaus. The last stage brings us into the Draa Valley, a green ribbon of date palms and a final frontier of civilization at the gates of the unforgiving Saharan sands. Before returning to Marrakesh, we visit a picturesque sand dune and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, an ancient fortified village built out of mudbrick. The tour ends in Marrakesh with a celebratory dinner and a final night in the city.

The eastern Adriatic coastline and its soaring mountains offer treasures as numerous as they are diverse. Local dances, music, and folklore abound, while the wine, olives and cheeses make every stop a delight. The road cycling is equally invigorating: sun-drenched Croatian cliffside roads wind high above the sea, while inland, we find ourselves deep in the rugged wilderness of Montenegro and the hushed rural valleys of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Our destinations are ancient towns imbued with a contemporary vibrancy, and their lively street life beckons us to join in.
Our journey begins in Cavtat, a picturesque port village near Dubrovnik. Riding south, we enter Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor, flanked by two massifs of the Dinaric Alps, leading us to the town of Kotor itself, deep within the twisting contours of the bay. The following day, we leave the waterfront for a loop ride in Lovcen National Park, with serious climbs that lead us to stunning viewpoints of the peaks and the chance to encounter wildlife along the way. After another night in Kotor, we cycle back out of the bay, and cross the border into the wilds of Bosnia-Herzegovina, reaching Trebinje for the night. From here, the landscape shifts to forested river valleys and small villages, still offering substantial climbing until we emerge on Bosnia’s short stretch of coastline at festive Neum. The following day, we ride north along the Peljesac Peninsula, a haven for gourmands with abundant seafood, olive groves and wineries, all connected by smooth, scenic cycling roads that help us work up an appetite. Transfer by ferry to the island of Korcula and enjoy the little port town. Our final day’s loop ride is an idyllic immersion in the island’s nature, its fisheries and wines. We transfer back to Dubrovnik for a final night dinner in the heart of the city, a fitting celebration of this exploration of the Adriatic and its many riches.

Just returned from the Loire Valley cycling trip with Explore and had a fantastic time. Our group leader, Erwin, was absolutely top notch—knowledgeable, fun, and great at fixing bikes on the fly (a very handy skill on a trip like this!). He was incredibly responsive to any issues, whether it was saddle woes or a hotel hiccup—he always did his best to sort it out quickly and with a smile.
The tour itself was stunning. The route took us through beautiful countryside, charming towns, and past jaw-dropping châteaux. There was also plenty of time in the afternoons and evenings to explore off-bike, enjoy a glass (or two) of local wine, and soak in the atmosphere.
We did hit a bit of a heat wave, but that’s just luck of the draw. Erwin made sure we took lots of water and shade breaks to keep the group comfortable, which was much appreciated.
The hotels were as expected—nothing fancy, nothing awful. Some rooms were quite warm due to the unusual heat, but fans were provided and that helped.
We were called the "guinea pig group," as this was Explore’s first time running this particular tour in quite a while. That said, it was an excellent experience, and with Erwin fine-tuning the itinerary along the way, I imagine it’ll be even better for the groups that follow.
