This day tour takes you to one of the most beautiful places in Georgia, specifically to locations in south Kakheti, and allows you to discover a small historical region known as Kiziki. Your first destination will be the town of Dedoplistskaro, the location of Vashlovani National Park's visitors center. Visit two important places located close to Dedoplistskaro. The first one is the Eagle Canyon, known for its amazing views of the Alazani Valley. This place is loved by birdwatchers and if your tour falls in spring you will get to many different-colored flowers as well.
Khornabuji Fortress is another attraction that you will see today. This fortress was made in the fifth century and is located on a steep rock. Please note that climbing to the fortress is quite difficult. The next destination on the itinerary will be Bodbe Monastery (nunnery). This is where saint Nino of Kabadokia, one of the most respected saints in Georgia, passed away. This nunnery is located near Signagi. The main church was constructed in the 11th century and has interesting medieval wall paintings.
The last destination will be the cozy, late-medieval town Signagi. Explore its narrow streets as you take in the beauty of this town. You have two options in Signagi. The first one involves a visit to a local museum, which houses a collection of paintings by famous Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani. The other option is to head for the famous Okro’s winery where you can have lunch and taste wine.
Return to Tbilisi after this day tour is over.
Learn about the long history of Georgian wine-making during this full-day private tour from Tbilisi. Explore the Kakheti wine region including stops at four different wineries, with a focus on organic wines. Sample several wines alongside freshly baked Georgian bread and cheeses. Meet local winemakers and hear stories about their craft. Includes traditional barbecue lunch.
In the morning, after a complimentary greeting and pick up from our guide at 9:30, guests will be driven to the Kakheti region. In an hour we will reach the very first stop: a Georgian home and bread bakery, where we will taste freshly baked Georgian bread called “shoti” and different varieties of cheese.
Afterward, we will drive 20 minutes more to reach the first organic winery called Vellino. The superbly successful winemaker will lead us into his lovely wine cellar.
The next organic winery we visit is called “Okro wines” and is located in the city of love – Sighnaghi. The city is also known for its defensive town wall and is a site worth visiting. This winery offers us a stunning view over the Alazany Valley with a backdrop of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range. But the most important part is the sky-high quality organic wine. The owner will lead us around this paradise.
By the time we are finished enjoying the best Okro wines, we head towards Mosmieri winery for lunch. Georgia is well known for its delicious food and people from Kakheti love to impress visitors with their local food. Mosmieri winery is situated in the famous Alazany Valley. The beautiful wine restaurant with a lovely view will warm us up for a marvelous BBQ lunch. Please note: Mosmieri Winery does not provide organic wine, but extremely high-quality Georgian and European-styled wines! A place for a comparison!
The last attraction of this fantastic day will be a visit to Qvevri (special Georgian clay jar used for wine making) maker near the town of Telavi. He will lead us into his fine workshop, and we will try his exclusive white wine.
At the end of the day as we will be satisfied with gorgeous food, stunning landscapes, and some of the world’s best organic wines!
