A seven day walking trip starting/finishing in Dubrovnik, visiting Sutjeska National Park, Sarajevo, Neretva river canyon and Mostar. The trip encompassed a mix of strenuous and easy day walks, visiting a remote mountain village, and exploring and understanding the volatile history of the country. An overall highlight was discovering the beauty of the landscape - so many mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. Accommodation ranged from the basic, Socialist-era style hotel in Sutjeska National Park (though perfectly comfortable and adequate), to the small, comfortable and more modern hotels in Trebinje, Sarajevo and Mostar. Travel was in a 12 seater van, driven by the personable Gvard, from Sarajevo.

All the cities visited were outstanding and each a bit different. Our tour manager, Marcus Graf, was knowledgeable, caring and very organized. He is a gem! The hotel in Luzern was outstanding the other two hotels were good. The markets did not disappoint but the decor in the towns was just amazingly beautiful. Well done Collette.

The historical sites were breathtaking, especially in Ephesus and Athens. I loved trying local cuisines - the Turkish mezze and Greek seafood were highlights. This is our 6th Back Roads tour. The itinerary was well put together giving a taste of all things Portugal. The accomodation was excellent 4-5 star. Meals provided were of a high standard especially those in the D’Ouro valley. The welcome and farewell dinners included local entertainment. Laura, our tour guide, provided detailed commentary and no “Challenges” were a problem. She even added in a few sites not listed in the itinerary. Finally our driver, Rui, safely drove us around the countryside.
