We enjoyed every aspect of our holiday. The accommodation was very comfortable, Christina was a wonderful host. The walking was outstanding, with great views over the Pinhao and Douro valleys.
This holiday was made extra special for us by the professionalism and kindness of the Headwater reps - Tony & Ludmilla. The one day when we got soaked, they came to our rescue and collected us early with no no fuss whatsoever. Apart from that one day the weather was kind and the walks spectacular
Discover the Tuscan countryside and culture on this 8-day self-guided walking tour. Through the extensive footpath network of the area, roughly following the traces of the Via Francigena, one of Europe’s most important ‘highways’ in medieval times, you walk from village to village and experience a full immersion in the world-famous Tuscan landscape. The tour is perfect as an introduction to the region and a great choice for people who love museums, galleries and Gothic and Romanesque architecture. You have plenty of time to visit attractions on most of the days.
You will also have time to visit all the beautiful medieval villages and historic towns along the Via Francigena: starting from beautiful Lucca, you’ll pass through Fucecchio, San Miniato, Gambassi Terme, the stunning San Gimignano with its medieval skyscrapers and Monteriggioni, admired by Dante in his Divine Comedy. An optional detour can bring you to beautiful Colle Val d’Elsa and the tour ends in Siena, arguably the most perfectly preserved medieval town in Tuscany. This tour threads together some of the most attractive towns and villages in Tuscany in an eloquent procession.
However, the emphasis of the tour is to enjoy the countryside, the rolling vineyards, the poppies in spring and the wild cyclamen in autumn. The area north of Siena is an amazing landscape of rolling hills, alternating vineyards and forests, while cypresses line the way leading to the distant farmhouses. Walking here is an unforgettable experience and many of the views have barely changed for hundreds of years.
Accommodation and some meals are included. You spend a night in one of the best agriturismos in Tuscany, and the final night in the heart of Siena, in one of the most characteristic little hotels.
This is a moderately easy tour which is suitable for those who have some experience of walking and a good general physical condition.
Great walk, beautiful scenery, excellent accommodation, luggage transfers went without a hitch. Electronic map made it almost impossible to get lost. English weather!
The hotels were well chosen and offered really good food. It's important to realize that much of the travel is not prearranged, but we were not high season so were able to book everything we needed. It would be better to arrive from Oslo than Bergen.
Set off on a 15-day adventure from Athens to Dubrovnik, traveling through Greece, Croatia, and Bosnia Herzegovina. Perfect for senior explorers, this trip features an easy activity level and covers classic destinations such as Sofia and Dubrovnik, alongside hidden gems. With hotel stays, transportation, and meals included, you can focus on the journey’s enriching experiences. The unique selling point is the comprehensive cross-country route, allowing travelers to savor the Balkans’ diversity in comfort and style.
If you’re seeking a brief yet immersive French getaway, the 'Cote d’Azur and Burgundy' walking tour might be your answer. This four-day trip starts in Marseille and concludes in Paris, providing a gentle itinerary that suits travelers who prefer taking things at a leisurely pace. With guided group activities, hotel accommodation, transportation, and meals all included, it’s a worry-free way to experience two of France’s most celebrated regions. The unique selling point is the concise yet comprehensive glimpse it offers into both the Mediterranean and Burgundy’s iconic landscapes, ideal for those with limited time.
Walking from inn to inn was epic and it was really nice to end in Dublin. The logistics were seamless. My only criticism is that one of the days was spent walking through a large clear cut area, which was interesting but not especially beautiful.
We reach most of the major cities very late in the evening, thus we hardly see anything in those cities.May be day time excursions need to be planned better
