This was a once in a lifetime trip and I highly recommend taking it! The logistics it takes to move through 4 countries in 11 days is a lot, and it was extremely smooth with contiki. The trip manager was top notch, he was knowledgeable, informative, caring and respectful. The add ons add up, make sure you are prepared for that, but every add on I did was absolutely worth it and I would recommend taking advantage of all the add ons you can. One thing to call out is in Kruger you truly camp in tents (I would not define this as “glamping”) it cooled down enough for us to be semi-comfortable but be prepped to rough it for two nights. Even with the camping, Kruger and the guided safari drives was the highlight of the trip. If you can, take this trip!! You won’t regret it.

First, we spend a few days in Mikumi National Park, which lies alongside the Northern border of Africa's biggest Game Reserve - the Selous Game Reserve. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the fashionable centerpiece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains. More than 400 bird species were recorded, the lilac-breasted rollers, yellow-throated longclaws, and bateleur eagles joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season.
Next, we visit Ruaha National Park, the second-largest national park in Tanzania which covers an area of about 22,000 km². Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect as safari tours seem expensive, and I kept wondering if it would really be worth the cost. But it absolutely was. From the first day I knew I’d made the right choice. Every game drive felt like a new adventure. One morning we watched a group of baby elephants playing in the dust while their mothers stood nearby. Later, we spotted a hippo yawning near a watering hole. So close we could see its giant teeth! And the sunsets? Incredible.
Our guide was excellent. He was friendly & funny. The group dynamic was easy and fun. We had a mix of people: a couple celebrating their anniversary, a solo traveler from NY, and me with a close friend. It never felt awkward or too crowded.
You don’t need to be super fit for this tour. Everything is done at a relaxed pace and was very accessible, even for folks who aren’t used to rugged travel.
If Tanzania is on your list, my advice is that you don’t overthink it. Just go. It’s 100% worth it.

This tour starts by picking you from your hotel/home within Nairobi 9:30 am. We will drive you to David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and have a walk through the little center from 11 am – 12 pm in an open space, with a rope fence around it. The youngest elephants come trotting out of the bush to greet their keepers who stand at the ready with giant bottles of milk. For the next 10–15 minutes you can watch each little one slurp and gargle their milk. When they're done, there's water to play with and keepers to nudge and get hugs from. While you get to watch them play and take photos. You find out how old they were when they arrived at the orphanage, where they were rescued from, and what got them into trouble. Once the youngest are all fed, they are led back into the bush, and it's the turn of the 2–3 year olds. Some of them can feed themselves, and some are still fed by their keepers. Watch them hold their giant milk bottles in their trunks and close their eyes with joy as they make quick work of several gallons of milk.

Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is set in the heart of Zululand where Africa’s Big 5 (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros) roam the flourishing savannah. Established in 1895 this is the oldest park in South Africa and encompasses over 98 000 hectares of the beautiful African landscape. This tour is in a closed vehicle. The Park contains an immense diversity of fauna and flora and is characterized by hilly topography. The list of animals in the park is long and varied.
Your guide will stop for lunch at Hilltop Camp (lunch at your own expense) giving you time to refuel and relax. The restaurant is situated at the top of the hill and gives visitors the chance to enjoy the scenery of the camp and surrounding areas. The aim of the project is to care for the various wild cat species which have been orphaned or injured in the wild and need care and rehabilitation.
