Itinerary
Embark on an unforgettable journey to the Maasai Mara, Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve, located in southwest Kenya. This iconic destination boasts one of the highest lion densities in the world and is home to over 95 species of mammals and 570 recorded bird species. Experience the awe-inspiring Great Wildebeest Migration, where over two million wildebeest, zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles follow an annual route between the Serengeti and Maasai Mara. Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Maasai people, renowned for their distinctive customs and dress. Recognized as the 7th wonder of the new world, the Maasai Mara promises an unparalleled safari adventure.
day 1 - Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve
Depart Nairobi early in the morning for Maasai Mara, with a stop at the escarpment for photographs. Continue the drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Kenya’s most popular tourism destinations. Your quest for an African safari is fully realized at this park. Meet the welcoming Maasai tribe, ready to introduce you to this spectacular natural heritage. The Big Five—lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos, and elephants—along with many other species, roam freely here. This is the perfect place to take a break from the daily hustle. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. Enjoy a game drive from 4 p.m. until dusk, then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
day 2 - Explore Masai Mara Game Drive
After breakfast, depart for a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch at the Mara River migration bridge area. This day is dedicated to game viewing in Kenya’s premier wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. Our morning and afternoon game drives will take us in search of Africa’s Big Five and the diverse array of wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan reserve. An early morning hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara can be arranged at an additional cost.
Throughout the reserve, you will encounter abundant wildlife, including Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, and wildebeest. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos are also commonly seen. Lions can often be spotted either basking after a meal or scanning the plains for their next prey. While cheetahs and leopards are more elusive, they are still relatively common.
The highlight of this park is the annual Great Migration in July and August when millions of wildebeests move north from the Serengeti in search of greener pastures, returning south between October and December. For an unforgettable end to an adventurous day, consider a bush dinner at an extra cost. Return in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.
day 3 - Masai Mara Game Reserve to Nairobi
This is your last day of the safari. After breakfast, depart for Nairobi, with a stop along the way for lunch. You will then be dropped off at your hotel or any Nairobi airport. Take this opportunity to share your safari experiences with your tour leader.
