Itinerary

This eight-day, guided safari trip is for all the wildlife lovers out there. Join us as we discover the rich natural beauty of and see a variety of wildlife in some of Tanzania's most famous national parks. Your African adventure starts with a pickup from Moshi. Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, spread out over a magical landscape with a massive soda lake covering two-thirds of the park area.

Next on the itinerary is Serengeti National Park, known throughout the world for its huge concentration of wildlife, especially big cats, as well as the great wildebeest migration, which sees more than one and a half million wildebeests, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 gazelles traveling the length of over 1,200 miles every year in search of water and grazing grounds.

The Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest intact caldera, is on the itinerary after Serengeti. The crater forms a spectacular bowl of about 265 square kilometres with sides rising 600m high and is home to between 20,000 to 30,000 wild animals at any given time.

The last national park on your itinerary is Tarangire National Park, one of the more seasonal wildlife reserves in Tanzania and a haven for bird lovers. The park also offers stunning scenery with its baobab-dotted landscape and sees a huge concentration of elephants during the dry season.

day 1 - Moshi – Lake Manyara

We will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi and transfer you to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive in time for lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive. This national park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatic wildlife reserves, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake that covers two-thirds of the park area. The lake is located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment.

The varied habitat of the national park attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest herds of elephants. Lake Manyara is also known for its unique tree-climbing lions (rare) as well as large flocks of flamingos that are attracted by the algae in the lake.

day 2 - Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti

Leave Lake Manyara behind and head for Serengeti National Park after breakfast. The drive takes you through the beautiful farmlands of Karatu as well as the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With the highlands behind us, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see.

Head for the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park thanks to the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source and therefore attracts a variety of wildlife.

Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park. Dinner and overnight at KatiKati Campsite or similar.

day 3 - Serengeti Plains

Today, you have the option to fly over the Serengeti Plains in a hot air balloon (please inform us beforehand if you are interested in this option).

Head out for a full-day game drive after breakfast. Follow the Kopje Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai kopjes that usually attract a number of lions and some formidably large cobras.

Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops scattered over the plains. They act as a miniature ecosystem, providing shade and drinking water to the animals. This makes kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife during the dry season.

Dinner and overnight at Kati Kati Campsite or similar.

day 4 - Serengeti continues

Enjoy a full-day game drive after breakfast. Today, you will follow the Sogore River Circuit, which loops through the plains south of the Seronera River. It is likely that you might encounter lions along the trail today. Other animals that can be spotted are Thomson gazelles, topis, ostriches and cheetahs.

The visitor’s centre, not far from Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites, is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive. This nicely designed centre offers some interesting wildlife displays as well as a gift shop selling information leaflets and maps of the area. The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased as well as a picnic area and an information trail up and around a nearby kopje.

Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the centre in the shade of giant acacia trees. Dinner and overnight at Kati Kati Campsite or similar.

day 5 - Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Have your breakfast at the campsite, pack your bags and leave Serengeti for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There is a stopover at the Olduvai Gorge, where Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of Nutcracker Man and Handy Man, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution. Reach Ngorongoro in time for lunch at the lodge and spend the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite or similar.

day 6 - Ngorongoro Crater

Descend from the crater rim to the floor, which is over 600 metres down, to see a variety of wildlife during a full-day game drive. Supported by a year-round water supply and ample fodder, Ngorongoro supports a huge variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeests, zebras, buffalos, elands, warthogs, hippos and giant African elephants. The crater is also home to some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino population.

Another big draw of this conservation area is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the crater floor. Return back to your campsite after the game drive is over.

day 7 - Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire National Park

Leave Ngorongoro after breakfast and head for your next destination, Tarangire National Park. The park is spread out along the Tarangire River and is made up of low-lying hills on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Its natural vegetation consists mostly of Acacia woodlands and giant African baobab trees with huge swampy areas in the south.

Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals during Tanzania’s dry season. Tarangire National Park is home to some of the largest wild elephant herds in Africa. It is also home to three rare animal species, greater kudus, fringed-eared oryxes and ashy starlings.

Go out on an afternoon game drive after a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at a campsite in the Tarangire National Park area.
