Excellent itinary packed in a lot in 11 days. Group leader excellent very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Japan and ensured we all travelled safely. Would not suit those with limited mobility as a lot of walking and use of public transport but great for those with no issues. Would highly recommend it.
I got into one of the first groups after Japan unlocked for tourism, and enjoyed an October excursion through the Land of the Rising Sun. From urban to country, mountains to sea, this tour provides a smorgasbord of Japan's landscape and culture. Excellent price for what is delivered here, pretty much all of the iconic areas will get visited. The included activities were fantastic, but there was still plenty of time for personal exploring. Food from Koya, the time in Hiroshima, and the floating gate in Miyajima, really make the 14 day tour something special. Take the recommendation to pack light seriously! You'll be a much happier camper if don't have multiple bags to juggle every time you switch cities.
Absolutely brilliant way to see highlights of Japan in a couple of weeks. Excellent organisation as always with Explore. Special mention for our tour leader - her boundless energy and enthusiasm made sure we didn’t miss a thing.
Thé Simply Japan vacation we had with Explore was the trip of a lifetime! Our guide Raya was very knowledgeable, ever patient, and full of good humour. The itinerary provided a very comprehensive array of activities; we felt we saw lots but were never rushed. I would encourage future tours to include a visit to the Sanjusangendo Temple (with the impressive 1001 statues - wow!); it was not to be missed! Also, I would encourage some sort of way to mark the leader’s progression through streets when there are shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, as some people got separated from the main group several times - yikes! I would definitely encourage others to take the Simply Japan tour. We loved it - and our guide!
Great experience! We saw wonderful parts of Japan, including Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, and Hiroshima. The hotels were wonderful! Our travel director was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My advice to Trafalgar is to reduce the number of visits to temples and shrines. Maybe allow more free time. Also, there were too many set Japanese meals with no options.
Simply Japan is a very well thought-out introduction to an amazing country. The sights we visited were extremely varied -- ideal for anyone (like me) wary of overdosing on too many temples and shrines. Since I do a lot of walking and traveling by train in my home country, the amount we did seemed "normal." The hotels were quiet and comfortable (with some impressive breakfasts). And our experienced, funny, coffee-and-anime-loving tour leader, Giulia Greco, excelled in introducing us to Life in Japan, both traditional and modern. Just be aware: This is not a 5-star / "white glove" / fine dining / "I don't want to lift a finger" tour. You'll spend two nights in traditional, futon on the floor establishments. You'll also spend very little time in Tokyo, a fascinating city, so you might want to book extra days before or after the tour to explore it on your own. And whatever you do, don't overpack!
