How many days to spend in Norway?

The charming town of Stavanger in Norway
Norway may be one of the countries that possess villages that literally and metaphorically shine at night

Norway’s size (the country is slightly bigger than the US state of New Mexico) along with its well-developed transport network means that you can cover a lot of ground even if you have only one week to spend in the country. However, a couple of weeks are needed if you truly want to dive into the cultural richness of this Nordic nation and savor its natural beauty. When considering how long to stay in Norway, we recommend spending at least two weeks to get your money’s worth of experience. The duration is enough to cover everything from the historic monuments of Oslo to remote coastal villages like Henningsvær and Nusfjord. Throw in a Northern Lights excursion if you wish to, or experience one of the world’s most scenic drives along the coastal road between Trøndelag and Bodø.

View of Oslo, one of the best places to visit in Norway.
Explore Oslo's rich history at Akershus Fortress, stroll through Vigeland Park's sculptures, and visit the iconic Viking Ship Museum.

Wondering how long should you spend in Norway? A five-day itinerary is a fantastic way to experience the highlights of this stunning Scandinavian country. Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Oslo, visiting iconic sites like the Viking Ship Museum and the beautiful Vigeland Sculpture Park. From there, take a scenic train ride to the breathtaking fjords, where you can explore picturesque villages and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or kayaking. Don’t miss the chance to witness the majestic Northern Lights if you're visiting in the right season. While five days may seem short, it offers a wonderful introduction to Norway’s natural beauty and rich history, making it an excellent choice for travelers with limited time.
