Why Choose a Group Tour in Chile?
Chile’s long geography needs planning
Atacama and Patagonia sit far apart, usually connected through Santiago. Group tours handle domestic flights, transfers and route sequencing so the trip does not become a series of airport lounges.
Atacama and Patagonia fit better with expert support
The Atacama brings altitude, desert roads and stargazing logistics. Patagonia brings weather, trekking routes and remote park access. Guides help both regions feel manageable.
Local guides improve desert and trail experiences
In the Atacama, guides explain salt flats, geysers, astronomy and altitude. In Patagonia, they help with trail conditions, pacing and the reality that wind is not a weather detail; it is a character.
Group travel adds value to a complex trip
Chile is not the cheapest South American destination. Bundled transport, guides and planned excursions can improve value, especially when domestic flights and remote accommodation are involved.
Santiago and wine country round out the route
Group tours can connect natural drama with culture, food and wine, giving travelers more than a highlights reel of deserts and mountains.
It works well for solo travelers
Chile’s big distances and remote regions make small group travel appealing for solo travelers who want company, structure and shared logistics.

This trip is fantastic! The itinerary is varied and interesting, the country is beautiful. The hotels were extremely good, the Fundador being more basic than the rest. All the local guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Our guide throughout, Marcelo, was excellent. He was extremely efficient, seamlessly reorganising the programme in Patagonia when necessary due to local conditions. He was very knowledgeable and helpful, always looking out to see everyone was ok. He has a superb sense of humour, skilfully easing some early mornings, long days, and lots of travel. He definitely added to our experience, making it even more enjoyable and memorable.
So many different types of experiences that it’s impossible to compare which is the favorite. The camaraderie of the group? The wine tastings? Ranches, farms, riding a horse? Big city sights? The moving dictatorship remembrance sites in Chile and Argentina? But I will say that Iguazú falls were spectacular!
Exceeded my expectations. Grateful for and surprised by some of the lower-profile experiences, amazed by and grateful for the higher-profile experiences. Excellent guide and traveling companions. This itinerary is well-planned and organized. The destinations are spectacular.
Our Patagonia holiday was a wonderful experience. A really great group which shared the joy and laughter of experiences. Some days were long as climbed to many iconic mountains and glaciers. Wow magic! Absolute credit to our guides who made this amazing journey possible.
This tour was excellent in delivering all of the different types of landscape and natural beauty of such a large and diverse beautiful country. Obviously to cover all of this there needs to be long days and early starts but this is clear when booking and absolutely worth it. The tour leader Andre was outstanding. Would highly recommend this tour, we had a fantastic time.
Things to know about this trip I hope will help others (I did the trip in Feb 2026): - follow the packing list in the contiki itinerary PLUS BRING THE FOLLOWING WHICH ARE NOT IN THE CURRENT PACKING LIST: RAIN PANTS, GLOVES, BEANIE AND THERMALS - Hiking poles can be rented for super cheap. I would not have packed them and saved the luggage space if I knew beforehand
