Reviews of our Madagascar Tours for Summer
Feedback from guests who toured Madagascar during Summer.
I was the only person booked on this tour starting June 5th 2026, so I ended up with a great "private tour". Explore and I were willing to change to a different tour date but my flights were not working out, so I stayed with the original plan. I had an excellent tour leader Salohy for the entire trip. A SUV was used for the trip - more agile than a tour bus at handling the tricky Madagascar roads - so we made good time on the travel days. The tour itinerary was closely followed in all cases including guides at the national parks. The favourites were Andasibe for the various types of Lemurs sighted and Isalo for the lanscape. All the accommodation was good - my "bungalow" at Ifaty was about 50' from the beach. There were very few tourists at the hotels as well as the parks. Weather was good with no rain but nights were cool 10 C and required a jacket - day time high 20-25 C. A great vacation done at my pace, since I was the only one around - many thanks to Explore and the local staff.
This was my first trip with explore and I couldn’t be happier with what I received. It was an excellent trip from start to finish. From the guide/local guides, to accommodation, to experiences available I enjoyed every minute of it. I felt safe and comfortable throughout the trip.
Our tour leader Bruno Randrianantenaina was excellent. It was his first tour with Explore. I would highly recommend him for future Explore tours. He is extremely knowledgeable, has a great and kind personality. The local guide for the hiking was very good too. His name was Filbert. I didn't enjoy The Artisan Hotel very much. The rooms were very dark.
This tour has it all - amazing scenery, opportunities for interaction with local people, animal viewing, including lemurs, history, and a great itinerary which enables you to see a large part of the country. Our accommodation was resort style, and our leader was knowledgeable, friendly and very capable. Everything went well!
Fantastic trip. Varied and interesting itinerary with plenty of amazing fauna and flora in abundance. I would definitely recommend this trip for anyone with a passion for the great outdoors.
Armand was an excellent Explore Leader always conscientious, caring and full of information about his country and the amazing wildlife. He is highly experienced and this showed. The trip is very busy, there is very little downtime and the long days on the terrible roads are tiring. I would make the following suggestions: In July/August you need warm clothes, waterproofs and walking boots, trainers won't do it. Don't stay at the Feony Ala Bungalows in Andasibe in July/Aug. There is no heat anywhere, it was 7C in the morning and everything was damp/wet. This trip needs an additional day in Hotel Relais de la Reine Isola. There is so much to see and do there and it's beautiful. The last day in Tana wasn't good. We spent 2 hours driving to the countryside to see an average "palace" we had a BBQ meal that no one really wanted then spent 2 hours driving back to Tana to go to a gift shop. It would be better to drop the palace in the countryside. Spend half a day exploring Haute Ville in Tana then give people time back at the hotel to rest to restbefore the last dinner.
