West and East tour of Madagascar

Begin your Madagascar adventure at the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs in Morondava, where centuries-old Grandidier's baobabs line a dusty red track just 45 minutes from town. Time your visit for sunrise or sunset, when soft golden light sets the trunks aglow for unforgettable photographs. From here, continue along the same track deep into Kirindy Reserve, Madagascar's premier destination for spotting the elusive fossa, the island's largest carnivore, alongside seven lemur species including the playful common brown lemur and the acrobatic, upright-leaping Verreaux's sifaka. Before flying back to Tana, pay a visit to the fishing village of Betania for a glimpse of local coastal life. The journey then heads east to Andasibe National Park, 135km from the capital, with a stop at the Pereyras reptile farm to meet Madagascar's endemic reptiles along the way. In Andasibe, Madagascar's most accessible and rewarding rainforest reserve, a nocturnal walk reveals frogs, reptiles, and lemurs hidden in the dark, while by day the haunting, whale-like call of the indri, the largest living lemur, echoes across the canopy. From Andasibe, transfer to Manambato and board a speedboat along the Pangalanes Canal to Ankanin'ny Nofy, the "nest of dreams." This tranquil haven of white-sand beaches, orchid-scattered forests, lakes, and mangroves is a wildlife lover's paradise, home to indri, sifakas, mouse lemurs, crowned lemurs, and the rare, extraordinary aye-aye. Staying at the Palmarium Hotel, join an evening night walk to a small nearby island, one of the very few places on Earth where this strange nocturnal primate can still be seen in the wild.
