I’d recommend this trip to absolutely anyone thinking about visiting South Africa. It’s such an incredible way to see places and experiences you’d never stumble across on your own, and you really get to immerse yourself in the amazing cultures across SA. All the accommodations very great, the food was also good & the trip add ons were alot of fun!
But the true highlight was our Trip Manager. He made the entire experience unforgettable — his knowledge of South Africa, his constant positivity, and his hilarious personality brought our whole group to life. He genuinely made the trip what it was. You do spend a lot of time driving on the bus which typically isn’t ideal but and the group made it so fun and I actually looked forward to a travel day.

Overall really good trip, great activities for the most part the safari at Kruger and Schotia the best. The kayaking was a bit disappointing as an activity, the duration was shorter than expected. The amount of driving was greater than expected, this will be reduced when the flight is changed to arrive in Durban rather than Johannesburg. Overall all accomodation and food was great.

This trip was good in that I got to see so much in a short amount of time. It aligned well with a wedding I was attending afterwards. Unfortunately my room mate wanted to room with another person and so I was left to be on my own which was stressful as a 24yo woman. In consequence to this I became a bit of an outsider where I had no idea what everyone else was planning on doing or even when they would go to breakfast. It became so much worse when we stayed in places with no reception and very little to no wifi. It was horrible that this was the case on my birthday and I just ended up spending the night in the room on my own as I wasn’t able to contact anyone and I was the only person not staying in the main hotel but across the court yard. Aside from this I really enjoyed the activities and recommend doing all the drives because they all have something different. If I could do anything differently it would probably be to bring a friend so I’m not put in the same situation that caused me to feel isolated and would have someone to be included with.
Our tour guide was amazing, he’s very knowledgeable and fun. So hopefully if you go you get him because he’s just an incredible person!
If you’re celiac like me it can be tricky to find food options and often will miss out on meals so I recommend getting there early and staying the night at the starting point and getting some shelf food as we didn’t have many opportunities to go shopping except for gas stations. Also to this I’d recommend buying a big 5L of water to keep on the bus because it can be hard to find water sometimes so it’s nice to just be able to fill up whenever you want.
My group was full of fun loving people so it was one big party most of the time. I guess every trip has its highs and lows and now that the trip is over (which seems like I only started 2 days ago and came and went too fast) I don’t really think of the lows at all and only remember how great it was. Honestly I would probably do this contiki again just because of how much I fell in love with the county and its wild side.
