Itinerary
Immerse yourself in southern Vietnam’s vibrant culture and scenery on the "Saigon & Mekong Delta Five-Day Group Package." This trip blends urban exploration with rural adventure, beginning with a culinary tour of Ho Chi Minh City and a fascinating visit to the Cu Chi tunnels. The journey continues with two days in the lush Mekong Delta, cruising the Thoi Son canal, sampling fresh local fruit, and experiencing the dynamic Cai Rang floating market. The tour’s unique selling point is its hands-on approach to Vietnamese life—perfect for travelers who crave a deep dive into the region’s flavors, history, and daily rhythms.
day 1 - Arrive in Saigon; street food tour
Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to Hanoi center. Check in to your hotel (after 2 pm). You have the afternoon free.
At 6 pm, the guide will pick you up from your hotel and start the street food tour. We visit alleys and streets in search of hidden gastronomical gems while providing you with an insider’s knowledge of Saigon’s cuisine.
We not only introduce you to the diverse and authentic cuisine, we also provide you with a look at the customs and traditions that make Vietnam unique.
The tour ends at around 8:30 pm. Overnight at hotel in Saigon.
day 2 - Explore the Cu Chi tunnels
After your breakfast in the hotel, our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in Saigon centre by 8:15 am.
First visit Independence Palace, also known at the Reunification palace, built on the site of the former Norodom Palace. The palace is a widely known landmark of Ho Chi Minh City and was designed by the architect Ngo Viet Thu. Next, visit beautiful structures from the French colonial times such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the historic Central Post Office and the War Remnants Museum, which has a vast display of both the Indochina wars.
After lunch at local restaurant, drive to Cu Chi tunnels on bus (approximately an hour and half). Before exploring the tunnels, you will receive a short introduction to the site followed by an introductory video about the tunnel construction and its use during the wartime.
Afterwards, explore the tunnel systems, which once included specially constructed living areas with kitchens and bedrooms side by side with other martial facilities like storage, weapons factories, field hospitals and command centers. Besides, there are also many hidden trap doors and dangerous traps within the maze-like tunnels for security purpose during the war.
Later, special tea and cassava (guerrilla’s food during the war) will be served. You can choose to relax or try for hand at shooting a real gun. Return to Saigon for the night.
day 3 - Saigon - My Tho - Ben Tre - Can Tho
Today, take a trip to My Tho. Upon arrival, first visit the 19th Vinh Trang pagoda. Then board a sampan and cruise around four beautiful islands known as Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise.
Stop at Unicorn Island and take a walk through village paths past orchards. Visit a fruit plantation and enjoy tropical fruits with Vietnamese folk music performance by the locals. Cruise through Thoi Son canal and enjoy the beauty of the countryside. Also, visit a family-run bee-keeping farm and enjoy honey tea as well as attend a coconut candy workshop.
After lunch, cycle around Tan Thach village, meet the locals and learn about the daily life in the Mekong Delta. If you do not want to go cycling, relax on hammocks and enjoy the cool breeze.
Proceed to Can Tho and explore on your own. Overnight at a hotel in Can Tho.
day 4 - Cai Rang floating market - Saigon
After an early breakfast at the hotel, take a leisurely boat trip to explore the picturesque tributaries of the Lower Mekong River (Bassac River). Then visit the Cai Rang floating market, the liveliest one in the entire region. Later, take a walking tour to a fruit plantation and a local noodle factory.
Also, visit Binh Thuy communal house and Munir Ansay Pagoda, a Khmer pagoda renowned for its unique structure.
Have lunch and return to Ho Chi Minh City.
day 5 - Ho Chi Minh departure
After breakfast, you have free time to explore the city until your pick up time. Your driver will transfer you to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for the end of the tour.

Lovely Trip
My husband and I stayed here for 4 days at the end of July 2009. Although it was the low season(and windy) we enjoyed the island and its relaxing effects.
