day 1 - Venice

Welcome to Venice–your arrival transfer to the hotel is included. Check in and get excited to meet your fellow travelers during a welcome meeting this evening where all families can bond before the Journey ahead.

day 2 - Venice

Take a walking tour of Venice, discovering winding lanes, marble palaces, and cobblestoned squares aflutter with pigeons. Then visit a glass-blowing workshop to watch a master craftsman at work. We’ll learn about the ancient technique of glass production while watching the creation of a unique piece. Afterwards, opt to hop aboard the city’s preferred mode of transportation: the gondola. This afternoon, try your hand at the centuries-old art of Venetian mask making. Watch how the mask mold is constructed and wrapped with papier-mâché, then use the tools of the trade to create your very own masterpiece.

In Piazza della Repubblica—site of the city’s forum during ancient Roman times—take a spin on an antique wooden carousel, riding atop galloping horses and gilded carriages. Channel your inner inventor with a visit to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum, dedicated to the famed Italian artist and engineer. Explore da Vinci’s creativity and genius as you interact with an astonishing array of machines, brought to life from drawings the artist created hundreds of years ago. Cap off the Day with a gelato treat!

day 4 - Florence

day 5 - Florence

Today is free to explore on your own or take part in optional activities. Choose to join an excursion by train to the city of Pisa and see just how far the tower leans. Those spending the Day in Florence can visit the city’s enormous, red-tiled cathedral—known as the Duomo—which took more than 140 years to complete; or marvel at Michelangelo’s David in the Accademia Gallery; experience Medici court life at the Palazzo Vecchio; and more.

Delve into gladiatorial history and examine authentic artifacts including shields, swords, and armour. With the guidance of an instructor, venture into an arena to safely train and fight other new centurions—and feel the thrill of handling your own wooden sword and shield.

Take a spring, early summer or autumn walk along Italy’s stunning Amalfi Coast and in the Mezzogiorno –“The land of the midday sun”. Discover a land where the mountains, marquis pastures, lemon groves, vineyards and villages meet the sea. A place where you could be strolling on a rugged trail for one moment and then in the next be winding down through a citrus grove, then walk through a pleasant village towards the blue waters of the Mediterranean, gelati in hand. The Amalfi region is a deeply romantic place and for good reason; here you will find that golden light making the cliffs glow creamy gold, while the waters below graduate into an aquamarine haze. Then there are the greens of the clifftops being speckled with spring flowers and herbs. The towns, villages and towers that cling to the cliffs can be a riotous mix of vibrant colours and tempered pastel shades. There is so much history, the Greeks settled here in the 8th century B.C. and looking down you can almost imagine the Argonauts rowing by enroute to tackle some Titan. The Romans came next, building villas around Positano and on Capri. There was much destruction caused by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius and, not just at Pompeii and Ercolanium, some villas were rebuilt even on the Amalfi Coast. Then in the early mediaeval period Amalfi became a major maritime city state claiming to have invented the compass and some aspects of parchment manufacture. Today, the town remains much as it was with narrow lanes and St. Andrew’s Cathedral dominating the scene. Walk through this spectacular region using the extensive web of footpaths and mule tracks that thread along the cliffs. A wealth of natural and cultural treasures can be reached relatively easily. On this self-guided walking holiday along the Amalfi Coast, you'll pass close to beautiful monasteries, caves and ancient farmhouses, visit nature reserves and ruins of paper mills, whilst enjoying spectacular views during all the walks. You'll also walk through the historic towns of Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello, Scala Praiano and Positano - all little pearls set in a fantastic landscape.
