This is a great trip! We got a nice survey of some amazing places, such as Yosemite and Sequoia, plus several stops in between. Accommodations and food were excellent. Our guide, was wonderful - very knowledgeable, patient, creative, dedicated to the task. We would definitely recommend this tour to others and would be interested in Trafalgar tours to other destinations.
Tour director was excellent ( )
We were not able to visit Death Valley due to heat which is understandable however there should be a second option. We stopped at an internment camp at 104 degree?? Too hot for Death Valley but not to walk around an internment camp. Also we only were given one morning in Sequoia National Park and then in the afternoon were told shuttles don’t run during the week. VERY DISAPPOINTING! Our director worked with our driver and we were driven into the park for 2 extra hours in the afternoon, but I felt we really had to “complain” to get this extra time in the Park and we had to either hike or take shuttles to the campground at 4:00 or have to hike 4 miles back to the resort. I have taken tours with Caravans, Globus and now Trafalgar. I would rate Trafalgar in LAST place. The saving grace was our tour director and driver who were AMAZING!
Enjoyed every destination on our trip. Was disappointed in the cancellation of drive through Death Valley National Park, but understood caution needed for the high temperatures in the park.
Excellent trip into Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. The subject matter experts were excellent discussing climbing, fire management, and star gazing. Incredible experience and travel director was outstanding-Manuel..
It’s a great way to experience and learn about California’s National Parks. I had traveled to Yosemite on my own, but with Trafalgar I saw some hidden gems and received information that I never would have known. I enjoyed this trip so much more than when I went on my own. We had special guests at several of our stops that gave us their personal stories that made it more realistic. The days are full, and I enjoyed being able to take some hikes in the Parks, and it was so nice to see how our guide took care of the travelers that chose not to do hikes. If you love our National Parks, and want more information than you can imagine, take this tour.
Great lineup of fabulous parks. Easy flying to and from LV and LA. Disappointed that we had to bypass Death Valley due to high temperatures. Would like to have seen on itinerary in advance of that possibility.
Excellent itinerary carried out by knowledgeable and customer oriented TD and coach driver. and were such an efficient team and each one of the team added something special to the sometimes unavoidable long bus rides. They were able to maneuver the busy national park sites with ease and lots of information. The special unexpected stops were so rewarding. With a team such as this it is a real witness as to why you travel with Trafalgar vs "doing the driving yourself". The trip was seamless due to the behind the scenes planning and reevaluating as need be. The sites were awe inspiring and the extra added outside experts really made the itinerary even more inspiring. Thanks to and for their professionalism and the way they cared for their "Trafalgar family". Can't forget playlists and morning starts either. Would love to travel with them again.
Wonderful time on tour, , well organized, great tour director.
Great itinerary for a one week trip! Checked off our bucket list Yosemite visit! Terrific tour guide and bus driver. Love the big red bus!
We loved the trip, but it seemed there was a lot of down time when there wasn't much around to do. Our tour director, was absolutely wonderful and tried to fill in as much as he could! We felt very safe with our bus driver. We certainly will plan another trip with Trafalgar and have told many of our friends about this company!
The schedule of the trip was super. Just enough time to get a taste of of all stopovers to know if you would really like to go back and would do it all over again.
Fabulous trip. Pictures cannot convey these places- they must be seen first hand.
Tour director had an emergency, so we were basically without one for the first two days. Thank God the coach driver was familiar with this tour. New tour director was pleasant but not prepared for this trip. She was constantly reminded of things by the coach driver. The star glazing in Sequoia was a bust. Couldn't hear female presenter and both presenters moved their pointers too fast to focus on anything in the sky. Food options were below par for this tour.
Every aspect of our tour was well planned and executed!!! This was our first American tour with Trafalgar after 10 abroad. and made the tour extra fun and interesting!
the tour guide put a lot of work into presenting us the facts about what we were doing, seeing and learning while also making it a fun and exciting trip. This is the 3rd trip I have been on and would highly recommend traveling with Trafalgar.
This is a great trip. It is a very busy itinerary with a lot of beautiful stops. The lodging is exceptional. Overall we were very happy with our decision to take this trip.
Loved Death Valley, Sequoia and Yosemite. Hated Las Vegas and Hollywood/Los Angeles.
Great to see El Capitan, redwoods, and waterfalls.
Vegas and LA wee a waste of time. Saw nothing in LA but crowded Hollywood Blvd. We were there for 40 minutes and people got back in the bus early… bus parked next to homeless people sleeping in the street. It was a good first impression. In Vegas high roller was cool but the hotel was not great. Also a last-minute change in hotel in the weeks prior to the trip created problems for some people on our trip. Who were there the night before and booked in the original hotel down the strip that we were supposed to be in. So then they had to move down the strip to the change hotel on the first day of the tour. Death Valley was a long boring 10 hour day in the bus., We had no tour guide for that day. So we got absolutely no information about death Valley Park for 10 hours we sat in silence. You stop at Manazar was very interesting, but we had no guidance there and would’ve liked more time to explore. Mammouth mountain stop was nothing more than an overnight stop in an old ski resort that was shutting down for the summer. There is no town there, no place to shop just a ski resort.. There is nothing to do there and the only option for food was an outrageously priced hotel restaurant. The lobby of the hotel there is nice, but the room accommodations are old.The breakfast on top of the mountain after riding the gondola was unacceptable for Trafalgar standards.Yellowstone, of course was beautiful and the talks with the Climber and the firefighter were very good however, because of a schedule change, we got not one chunk of free time in Yosemite. The only free time was time after dinner. We were supposed to have a half a day of free time there. Also, in order to see the fire talk, because the schedule changed, we had to drive an hour out and an hour back and the next day we drove again to get out of the park. We were promised a half day of free time in the park even with this change and we did not get it.. The accommodations in Yosemite were old and the bed uncomfortable. I did hear other passengers speak about bugs in their bathroom and mold in the bathroom.. The terrain is very uneven and somewhat difficult for seniors to navigate ( one person on the tour fell on the uneven blacktop sidewalks) around the accommodations there. The accommodations in sequoia national Park were better as far as the room was concerned. However, the room was a long walk uphill from the lodge, which was the only place you could get food. This was difficult for senior members and some members of our group who had mobility issues. We were stuck there and basically could not leave. There is a shuttle system that operates only on holidays and weekends. So we had a free afternoon with nothing to do and basically nowhere to go. Something should’ve been scheduled for that afternoon even if it was an optional experience.. Here we are in this beautiful place and we are stuck at a hotel. The shuttle system is complicated to the point where you have to get on and off and wait for shuttles for up to 45 minutes at a a time at different stops in order to get where you want to go. The stargazing event was not good. We were led through a dark forest, which was very difficult for some of the mobility challenged and older people on the trip and although the presenter was enthusiastic, it was really hard to see what they were pointing out in the sky. Once again stuck in the mountains in a place with only one real option for food that was quite expensive. The breakfast buffet here, however, was amazing and the trips to see the big trees were fine yet a little bit rushed. The bus trip to LA was a long nine hour day. The Marriott hotel in LA was the nicest place that we stayed the entire time. The farewell dinner had good food. There were no options to get your free breakfast if you had an early flight. So you can cross that included meal off. There were some circumstances that affected the trip as far as the tour guide being a last-minute replacement, however, this replacement admitted she was a city girl, not a nature girl, and it was clear that she would’ve preferred not to be there. There were no group building activities on the bus and as Trafalgar no longer offers name tags by the end of the trip, we didn’t even know the names of 3/4 of the people in our bus except the few people that we became friends with. There was limited information shared about the places that we were driving through until the last day. We were encouraged to use WhatsApp to communicate with her yet she never ever once answered a question that was presented on the app.The bus driver was nice, however, he was extremely concerned about the cleanliness of his bus so much in fact that he would vacuum behind you as you got on the bus, and was clearly not happy when I had to use the bathroom one day. Now we paid big money for this trip to ensure that there is a bathroom on the bus and we understand that the drivers would rather not clean the bathroom. And many bathroom stops were made. However when you have older people on your tour you need to expect that once in a while, they’re going to have to use that bathroom. The tour guide even had to use the bathroom one day. Only one group photo was done, which was in Yellowstone and that’s unusual for Trafalger tour guides as they really like to encourage lots of group photos so you remember your travel friends. There were many stops in strip malls for lunches in our travels. This is really unacceptable for the price that we paid for this trip. We’ve been on many many tours with Trafalgar and have never been dropped in so many parking lots and strip malls. I would highly recommend that you all visit Yellowstone and Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks as they are beautiful. But do it in a different way. The start and end points of this trip are something they make sound exciting and they were not. You are basically taken from overcrowded, loud, noisy, hot cities to beauty, and then back to an overcrowded, hot noisy city. There were too many accommodations where you were stuck with nothing to do and where the rooms were not up to par and we’re far away from the main building. There were too many schedule changes. We understand that the last-minute change in tour guides was no one‘s fault however having an unenthusiastic tour guide dulled this trip.. Our other trips with Trafalgar have been absolutely amazing and this one was beyond disappointing. We should absolutely all be given some kind of credit for not having a tour guide for an entire day with 10 hour bus ride.
We would have liked more time at Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Especially Sequoia was too rushed at the Giant tree walk, the General Grant and General Sherman trees. We did not get to finish and that is why we went!
Trafalgar - everything was so well organized. They didn’t have you racing here then racing there. Places to stay were really nice, food options weren’t always the best but look where we were! There were three of us celiac people and our guide always made sure we were taken care of. Our guide was so knowledgeable and funny! He also put our names above the seats on the bus so you knew exactly where you were sitting. He’d change it every day so sometimes you were up in the front area, or the back area, or left or right. He always made sure we were comfortable and happy, ha. The bus driver was very good, too. (It’s a coach, not a bus he would remind us, ha). The bus was newish and came from Quebec! One lady fell about half way through the trip and the guide made sure she was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she stayed overnight. Broke some bones in her arm and face. But they rearranged the route so we could pick her up the next day. There were 37 on the trip and really nice people. They made sure that they had frequent potty breaks, usually by a scenic place or something. We were very happy with Trafalgar and would use them again.
The California Narional Parks were awesome, but the accommodations in the Yosemite and Sequoia Parks were poor. They were dirty, dark, very dated and hot. We were forced to change rooms in Yosemite due to a flood from a broken pipe. Additionally, beginning the tour in Las Vegas seems out of touch with the nature of a National Parks tour. The Horseshoe hotel was also very disappointing. It was overcrowded, filled with smokers, and dated. I would have preferred a different starting point other than Las Vegas.
Although it’s a long, long bus ride, the itinerary is perfect. Now we can say, we’ve been to Death Valley, Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite, King’s Canyon, and Beverly Hills.
a different start location other than Las Vagas an extra day in Yosemite would be great otherwise, great trip
The hotel in Yosemite was in poor condition. We needed to change our room due to water in rug on the side of the bed near the bathroom They sent kids up to check it out who said "yes it's wet". Do you want to change rooms, yes we did. Facility was unkept and not clean and in desperate need of a major refurbishing.
I have traveled with various tour companies and had heard wonderful things about Trafalgar. What a disappointment I was in for! The itinerary looked awesome, but I didn't understand why we went to Mammoth since it wasn't a National Park and the Tioga Pass is frequently closed, which it was. It resulted in a very long and frustrating bus ride. Our bus driver was awesome. He was kind and helpful and considerate. He also was an excellent driver, and I always felt safe when he was driving. The tour director was friendly, but she had very little consideration for the age of her participants. Everyone, but one person, would be considered a "senior." There were 3-4 people who had some difficulty in walking quickly, but she had little to no consideration for that. She walked like she was with a group of teenagers which was no surprise since she said she led many student groups. This was NOT a student group. Some folks never heard full directions or were left behind wondering if they were going to find the correct place. In Las Vegas, She took off on a Saturday night never telling us what restaurant we were going to, and we were lucky to get there. It was obvious she had not done this tour very often because the bus driver provided us with more details about things than she did. When Plan A did not work out, there was no Plan B, C, or D, and I along with others in the group found that frustrating. One day we stopped at a small restaurant that had no idea a bus of people was coming for lunch. The poor staff were overwhelmed, but they treated us very graciously and the food was great. But, our waiter complained to me that it would have been appropriate for her to let them know we were coming. At our last hotel, a manager told me the kitchen was so backlogged because the tour was originally expected at 5:30 for dinner, but she changed it last minute to 7:00. We heard more about her other job experiences and her husband's background in the wine industry than the places we were visiting. The parks did not disappoint. But, be aware that there has been serious fire destruction and cutbacks have shut certain things down. The accommodations at the parks were average. The speakers that were provided at the various parks were informative and very interesting. The beauty of the parks as always, was astounding. I was not impressed with the customer service at Trafalgar. I have never been on a tour that someone does not meet you at the airport. For the amount of money the trip costs, that would be expected. I did find out later, after 4 phone calls that you're affiliated with a car company to get to the airport to go home. It is very pricey, but early in the morning in a strange city at least I'm glad it was vetted by your company, or I am assuming it is. It is ridiculous to book a hotel so far away from LAX when there are so many nice ones close by, especially when transportation to the airport is not provided. Would I recommend this trip? Probably not. There are too many other companies that provided the same journey that are not as expensive. I thought I was paying for better service and a competent and caring tour guide. I did not get that. A few people on the trip who were also disappointed indicated that the European trips are much more organized and the guides are more knowledgeable. In all honesty, this was a trip planned for my husband who had never been to the parks, and he will never do another tour trip. This one basically ruined him on the idea.
Wonderful trip to see our national parks! Everything is planned for you.
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. Loved Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks . DID NOT LOVE 12 hour days on the bus. Even with frequent stops- it was too long. I understand sometimes unavoidable due to road closures etc. Getting into hotels late- sometimes little options for meals at that time. Seemed to be a lot of planning on the spot- should have had pre-planning by Trafalgar. Tour Director was marvellous. Enthusiastic, attentive to our needs, did her best to accommodate for last minute changes.
Some Rooms were below average and rest stops were horrible. Bus rides were too long
