We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. As this was our very first European cycling trip we really didn’t know what to expect but the trip exceeded our expectations! The information provided before (the tip about a charging stick was invaluable) and during was great. The accommodations were fantastic, especially their location. It was so nice after a long ride to arrive at the hotel, be able to check in, have our bags available and then, after a shower, be able to head out on foot to explore the sights! The breakfasts were amazing and fuelled us for the ride ahead. The navigation system generally worked well although a bit tricky in larger centres but we figured things out. The bikes were well maintained and worked well.

Itinerary

Journey by bike through northern Bavaria past castles, medieval towns and historic breweries. Cycle through the heart of Bavaria’s Franconian region on a relaxed journey that combines cycling with medieval history and one of Europe’s richest brewing traditions. Starting and finishing in Nuremberg, you follow riverside paths, quiet country lanes and sections of the historic Castle Route, linking storybook towns such as Bamberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Wolframs-Eschenbach. Along the way, explore UNESCO-listed old towns, half-timbered houses and imposing castles, with plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere in traditional beer gardens after each day’s ride. The circular route is designed to be flexible, with train options available to shorten daily stages and electric bikes offered if you want extra support. After each day in the saddle, unwind with a locally brewed smoky beer, enjoy the warm hospitality of Franconian hosts and sample the regional sausages and dishes the area is renowned for.

Arrive in the city of Nuremberg and make your way to the first hotel. It is well worth taking some time to visit the sites of this fascinating city. The castle, which has accommodated numerous emperors and kings, overlooks the imperial city majestically. Nuremberg was once the preferred residence of many German kings and is full of architectural wonders. It was the birthplace of artist Albrecht Dürer and site of the Nuremberg Trials. Your bike will be available at the hotel either this afternoon or first thing in the morning.
