excellent trip. great insight into rarely seen places, especially Macedonia. I'm an archaeology fan and I was delighted with the site visits and museums. Our tour leader Yane was a delight - warm, caring and highly capable.
Just finished a 2 week trip (Ancient Macedonia) with a small group of 13 people. Janne, our guide, was outstanding. The trip was well organized and all visits/sites/local guides were excellent. Additionally, our driver Dzogo, also added much local knowledge. All in all a great trip with a fun like minded group of travelers.
A very interesting tour with plenty of historic destinations visited. It was great that we had sufficient free time to further explore the museums and sites of Sofia, Skopje and Ohrid. Elena the tour guide was terrific - very informative and well organised. Zoki the driver was also brilliant - patient and competent. The only negative for me at 6' tall was that the Sprinter minbus was rather cramped with little knee room and no overhead shelves to store day bags.
The Balkans are a beautiful part of Europe and are full of history. The two tour leaders we had, Zorica and Elena were very good, as were the local guides and our driver.
A great trip, moderately paced allowing free time to visit many of the museums in the cities. Heraclea, Philippi and Vergina were excellent. Coach was a little cramped if you were over 6' tall. Guide was excellent.
If you want a beach holiday, or a nice relaxing two weeks, then this is NOT the holiday for you. If however you want to delve into ancient Greece, Macedonia, monasteries, churches archaeological sites etc and get a real taste for the history of this part of the Balkans, then don't hesitate to sign up.
Ancient Macedonia is a wonderful tour combining both beautiful scenery and culture.
Jani had good knowledge and was very friendly. Jago the driver was fabulous at his job despite other reckless road users. Did get a bit church/monastery overloaded, although 1 highlight was the stay in the monastery. In some of the older hotels the showers were badly designed leave the whole bathroom floor set and slippy. On the whole it was an enjoyable trip.
The trip covered a lot of ground both distance and places of interest. That still allowed plenty of free time including a relax in Lake Ohrid. Our guide and driver delivered a wonderful trip and on top rescued the bus break down interlude efficiently- full marks to them both
