If you dream of breathtaking wilderness and epic journeys by land and sea, the "Alaska Discovery Land & Cruise" tour delivers an unforgettable 12-day adventure from Fairbanks to Vancouver. This relaxed-paced trip is ideal for those who appreciate comfort and scenic grandeur while exploring iconic destinations such as Denali National Park, Glacier Bay, and the vibrant city of Juneau.
Begin with a river cruise aboard the Sternwheeler Discovery, delving into Alaska’s rich cultural heritage. Savor local flavors and lively stories at the Denali Dinner Theater, then travel from Denali to Talkeetna in a luxury domed railcar, where panoramic views of the wild landscape unfold. Cruise deep into Denali National Park for prime wildlife viewing, and marvel at Glacier Bay’s icy majesty from the comfort of a Holland America ship. Along the Inside Passage, stops in Ketchikan—the "Salmon Capital of the World"—and other charming towns offer a taste of frontier life.
With accommodations, transport, and meals included, this group tour is designed for mature travelers who enjoy a balance of relaxation and discovery. The tour’s unique selling point is its blend of luxury rail experiences and cruising through some of North America’s most spectacular, unspoiled environments—truly Alaska as you’ve always imagined it.
We enjoyed the entire trip, accommodations, excursions, food, tour manager, tour guides, the coordination and handling of luggage...we feel we got our money worth!
Horrible experience. Unsafe conditions to be traveling down the coast. Didn’t get to see excursions. Ship should have gone into port; 13’ waves. Have never felt unsafe before on a trip, but I certainly did this time. Never want to travel on any Holland America line again.
Train ride
Bad weather didn’t help but disappointed in Holland. I heard from a neighbor when I returned that they went on Princess 2 weeks prior and Holland on a beautiful day didn’t go to Big Glacier when Princess and Norwegian’s did. Wish I had known Holland appears to be third in Alaska. And disappointed in our cruise director Chris. He said he would be sending emails out and a picture of group. Picture of group he sent in a format you can’t open. Heard from few I do have contacts of they could not open either. We emailed Chris a few times and nothing back from him.

My most memorable experiences were the train from Denali to Talkeetna, and the cruise in Glacier Bay. We were blessed with exceptionally good weather.
