The whole trip was fantastic! Our tour guide, Kathy Fil was great! The train ride through Denali National park was amazing! The hotels/lodges were wonderful, great views and service. We really enjoyed the buffet at the Hollander America Lodge. That was the best lay out of food our whole trip. The cruise was amazing, the glaciers you are stunning. The Holland America ship gave us a very nice view by sailing up to them and then turning the ship, Great job. The WesterDam was very clean and the staff was very professional. It was a trip of a lifetime!!
A fabulous trip. The trip to Denali was a highlight for me. I loved that we actually saw Denali mountain from the train ride back to the coast. The train ride was another highlight of the trip. I’ve been on an Alaskan cruise before. What was special this time was cruising south only. The last cruise was a loop up and back. The return trip south was somewhat boring in that we had been the the same area just days before. The land trip first made this trip so much better.
We had full days but they were very doable. The times for leaving each day were good, we didn’t have to get up and going too early. It was an amazing experience & our options were very good & amazing as well.
It was a great experience. Our tour manager Kathy was fantastic, same with our driver Craig. They both did a lot more than expected to ensure we had a great experience. I will recommend, however, to use another hotel for the Anchorage stay since the Hilton Hotel is under construction and it was a terrible accomodation.
This was an excellent tour. Cold but clear skies and no wind so we were able to enjoy every part of our itinerary from glacier tour to dog sled ride to ice art to northern lights which were spectacular.
If you wanted me to leave right now to do this trip again, I would be busy packing my bags! We went in late February and, yes, it was cold (daytime highs in Fairbanks were in the -15 to -7 range) but with the right clothes you will be fine. Michael Hepler was our guide and he is personable and knowledgeable and you are in good hands. The one activity that we mention when people ask “How was your trip?” is always dogsledding and dinner with the kennel owners- daughter and husband of Susan Butcher, who won the Iditarod 4 times. David Monson and Tekla Butcher-Monson are mushers in their own right and are fascinating to talk to. Anyone can sign up to go dogsledding at this kennel, but only Collette gets to go to their home and have dinner and talk with them. Do not hesitate to book this trip!
