- The best time to visit Egypt is between October and February. Egypt’s winter is rather warm, with very little rainfall. It’s definitely the best weather.
- The low season is from June to August, when the summer heat is scorching and unforgiving, especially in Upper Egypt, and the Western Desert.
- If you want to travel to Upper Egypt, winter is the best season for you. The weather in Egypt is ideal for travel in the desert.
Between mid-October and mid-February is when most of the crowds head to Egypt. This is “winter” in Egypt, when the weather is much cooler. There might be some sporadic rains, but it is definitely possible to manage those. This is the peak tourist season for those who are traveling to popular destinations, like Cairo, Luxor, Giza, or Aswan.
The shoulder seasons, between March and May, and September and October are also among the best time to visit Egypt. The weather in Egypt is usually quite pleasant, and the number of tourists flooding the area would be lower. It will be much easier for you to get the hotel accommodation you want, without having to book months in advance.

March to May — Spring / Good Season
The weather in Egypt is rather pleasant during these months. The weather is slightly warm, but not overwhelmingly so, and there is usually no rain either. April and May receive some sandstorms, locally known as the Khamsin Wind, but that will not cause any problems for your trip.

- Highlights: Ramadan, one of the biggest festivals in Egypt, begins in the end of May. When making travel plans, account for the fact that a lot of local places might be closed for this religious festival - where food is prohibited during the day time. However, you should be able to travel to bigger cities like Cairo, Giza, and Aswan without any problems!

June to August — Summer / Low Season
You have not known summer if you have not been to Egypt between June and August. The weather gets unbearably hot and humid, and there might be some sandstorms in the desert locations. June is slightly more manageable, so if you’re okay putting up with the June heat, you can get accommodation for throwaway prices in most of the popular destinations!

- Highlights: The weather in Egypt is too hot for you to head to Upper Nile, and explore all the ruins in the sand. If you want to visit Cairo to relax, and visit the museums, or just go on a relaxing Nile Cruise, this would be when to visit Egypt. Try and restrict outdoor activities, unless you’re very good at handling the heat. June is also the month of Ramadan, so plan your travels accordingly (mostly, once the fast is broken in the evenings, there are great feasts and parties hosted throughout the country - this is your chance to experience something uniquely Egyptian).

September and October — Fall / Good Season
The fall season is yet another shoulder season in Egypt. The summer heat begins to lower, and the winter cold would not have begun in the desert, but the sea breeze gives you some respite from the leftover heat as well. This gives you a great opportunity to explore Egypt when the weather is pleasant, and without having to fight away the crowds that gather during the peak season.

- Season: Fall
- Highlights: This is a good season for you to visit Alexandria, which tends to get rather damp during the winter months. The weather in Luxor, Abu Simbel, Red Sea Coast, and Sinai is absolutely amazing, so you will definitely enjoy a Upper Nile trip during this period. By mid-October, the crowds will start picking up, as it is the beginning of the tourist season.

October to February — Winter / High Season
Winter is the best time to visit Egypt. It coincides with the winter in the north- but the Egyptian winters are full of sunny days, sparse rains, and beautiful weather throughout. It provides a welcome escape for those running away from the cold winters back at home. This is peak tourist season, so do not expect to be able to get into the temples at Luxor, or the pyramids at Giza without having to fight away a throng of people.

- Highlights: One of the biggest events happening during this season is the Abu Simbel Sun Festival, celebrated on October 21 - the day of Ramses II’s ascension to the throne. It’s a beautiful celebration you can’t see anywhere else, or during any other period of time during the year. If you want to go on a Nile Cruise, this is a great time, but the nights will get really chilly. For those who are more adventurous, camel rides across the Valley of the Kings is a must-do during the tourist season!
