We had the absolute privilege of booking a safari with Kilisa Tours & Safari, and I can honestly say their service is nothing short of 5-star excellence. From the very first communication to the final day of our trip, the entire experience was handled with professionalism, warmth, and genuine care.
Our guide was incredibly skilled at spotting wildlife and shared insightful knowledge about the animals, landscapes, and cultures. Every game drive was exciting and perfectly paced, and the accommodations selected by Kilisa Tours were comfortable and well-suited to the authentic safari experience.

A really excellent trip. In just over a week we had game drives in several different environments (forest, open plains, the Ngorongoro Crater) and had some truly magical experiences. Visiting the Olduvai Gorge to learn about humans' early ancestors was a moving experience. Our visit to a Maasai village helped us to see and understand something of their way of life. We stayed mainly in luxury tented camps (Tortillis Camps), which were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and run by a team of very helpful staff.

A full 100 varieties of dung beetle have been recorded, as have 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.

We had 2 fantastic game drives with our guide. He was very caring and a perfect guide. He knows the national parks (Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro) inside out. Booking with the tour operator was easy, he was very responsive and helpful. All worked out as planned and we had a lot of very cool sightings. Clear recommendation from us.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect as safari tours seem expensive, and I kept wondering if it would really be worth the cost. But it absolutely was. From the first day I knew I’d made the right choice. Every game drive felt like a new adventure. One morning we watched a group of baby elephants playing in the dust while their mothers stood nearby. Later, we spotted a hippo yawning near a watering hole. So close we could see its giant teeth! And the sunsets? Incredible.
Our guide was excellent. He was friendly & funny. The group dynamic was easy and fun. We had a mix of people: a couple celebrating their anniversary, a solo traveler from NY, and me with a close friend. It never felt awkward or too crowded.
You don’t need to be super fit for this tour. Everything is done at a relaxed pace and was very accessible, even for folks who aren’t used to rugged travel.
If Tanzania is on your list, my advice is that you don’t overthink it. Just go. It’s 100% worth it.
