This tour was a great hybrid between going it completely on our own and a completely regimented tour group experience. Alessandra and the team made all of the hotel, transportation, and tour reservations and we just had to be at the right place at the right time. The events they suggested were great and hit all of the highlights we were interested in and more. There was plenty to do, but also some free time to explore on our own and relax.
If I had enough money and if work would give me more days of leave then I would 100% do another tour if I could. Our CEO Cate made it the best experience possible by providing a structured itinerary while ensuring we have time to do our own adventuring here and there. The experiences I had on this trip were something I will probably never forget.

This Self-drive journey starts from Rome the capital of Italy towards the Siena Area and continues through Orvieto famous for its majestic Gothic Cathedral and the beautiful Perugia region home of the Baci (world-famous chocolate). Drive along beautiful scenic roads in the Tuscan hills. Explore the village of Montalcino and taste the famous Brunello wine. Then you will reach Bagno Vignoni renowned for its spa with a large swimming pool. Visit Pienza famous for its sheep cheese “Pecorino”. Your last stop of the day will be in Montepulciano where you will have the opportunity to taste local wines. Next day, continue your journey through Chianti Landscape, famous for its wines. Driving ahead towards San Casciano Val di Pesa where local oil and wine tasting is scheduled. Then you will reach Florence. I chose this trip because of the 6 nights in Tuscany - Montecatini Terme. Cinque Terre, Lucca, Siena and San Gimignano were highlights of this tour. The food for the special dinners was amazing. Rosella and Massimo kept things on track. Organizing and coordinating tickets, transportation (2 ferries, train and bus) and firsthand knowledge of the areas visited was well exhibited by Rosella. The specialty tour guides were knowledgeable and added extra flair to the excursions. Enjoyed the trip immensely.

This was a great trip to explore each city. Personally, this felt a bit more independent type travel (exploring the city by yourself or if you made a friend with them) vs other Contikis (more time with the group). Hotels were great and fantastic locations (centrally located near metros and the main train station). Fantastic free time add ons as well.
